4-0 out of 5 stars Really like it., May 29, 2010
First off: We did not purchase this TV from Amazon, we purchased it at a local retail store, not for any other reason than the price (we paid a few hundred less than the current Amazon price)

My husband and I purchased this back in April, it was either this or the Phillips that they had set right beside it, it was really a hard choice as the Phillips was marked down to just a few hundred dollars, whilst this was just under six fifty. We are so very glad that we went with this model(42LD450). The video quality is quite good, blacks are black, and whites are white, back light is very bright, and video quality is amazing.

We almost took this back however: When we first plugged it in and turned it on, the only picture was a white screen with the Firmware version bouncing around, no menu would come up and it would not acknowledge anything had been connected. Well, we unplugged it again, and turned it back on, and this time, it acknowledged the DVR (input 1) and starting spewing forth video and audio We have had no problems since that.

My only gripe is that we will have to go out and purchase a new unit for our surround system, as the TV only has a Optical Audio Output. And on that note, the built in speakers are not awesome, yes, they are very usable, but like almost all TV speakers, they are not going to satisfy your need for spectacular surround.

This is definitely worth the buy, I really think you will be happy with your purchase. Thank You For Reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleek LG at bargain price!, November 24, 2010
It took me about three days to decide to pull the trigger on this TV after looking at written reviews on Amazon and even some video demos online. About four hours after receiving it and I haven't left my room.

This TV is simply lovely so far. The setup was a bit confusing at first and the stand is not the best I've ever seen but the instructions for setting up the stand were adequate and I was able to get the TV up and running in about ten minutes (the first five of which I sat confused).

Really, the negatives on this purchase stopped after the setup and the stand. Besides the stand, this TV is just pretty. One of the first things that stood out to me was the fact that the screen is so sleek and does not reflect any glares at all. Also, I had read about a terrible viewing angle and I honestly watched this TV from the side with no difference in the picture at all. It's so big that it's practically impossible to have a bad seat in the room that you watch this TV.

If you plan on playing video games on this TV, you will not be disappointed in the least. The only issues I've had with the TV is getting my colors juuuust right, although the "Game" picture setting has sufficed very nicely.

The sound on the TV is great. It is centered and doesn't feel empty in the least. It is a very full and rich sound that will work just fine if you don't have an expensive surround sound system.

After paying [...] and receiving free two day shipping, I am literally ecstatic that I was able to nab such a nice TV. After spending the last three years with a 24" Insignia LCD that was 720p, I am ready to lock myself in my room.

If you are like me and can't shell out more than 500 dollars for an HD TV, this is the TV you want to pick up right away. I simply cannot find anything that I dislike beyond the stand itself that makes me rate this any less than 5 stars.

Don't be alarmed by the 60hz refresh rate, I honestly can't see how 60hz is so inferior to 120. Especially when 120hz is almost 500 dollars more expensive.

Trust me, if you are on the fence about this TV -- take the leap. This coming from a 21 year old college student who is now going to be the most popular person on his floor.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I hoped, June 20, 2010
I purchased this TV to replace my 3-year old Samsung Series 3 32" LCD TV in my master bedroom because I wanted a larger size TV now that prices have dropped a good bit (paid over $1,400 for my 32" a few years ago). I debated between this one and a 40" Samsung for the same price, both were 60hz models, which is fine since I'm only using this for my DVR. Since I've seen a few older LGs before that had decent picture quality, I went with this one for it's larger size with slighly better specs than the Samsung, although I've always preferred Samsung. I figured since this was a newer model than those I've seen, with better specs I couldn't lose.... I was wrong!

I put this one on the wall where my old one was and my first night watching it I was quite disappointed! Although the picture is sharp and vibratant, it's only that way if you are directly in front of it. The viewing angel is terrible with this set, especially vertically below, which is my problem since I'm using this on a wall in my bedroom and viewing it from the bed, which puts me slighly below the screen (the TV is just above my dresser, maybe 3 feet above the floor). In this position, the screen washes out terribly, much like some of the older laptop displays did. Blacks become gray and colors very washed out. My Samsungs don't have this problem, neither my old 32" or my 52" in the living room. The construction itself is also very flimsy compared to the Samsung models I've owned. It's strange though, that I installed a 42" LG for a friend that's over 2 years older than this one and it was much more solid and has a better picture and viewing angle than this one.

I realize this is a lower-end set, and I did not want the best just for the bedroom, but considering that I replaced a 3 year old set with only 30,000:1 contrast ratio and 720p with this one that is supposed to be 100,000:1 and 1080p and yet my old one produced much deeper blacks and vibrant whites and colors, I'm quite dissapointed. Also, another reviewer mentioned that he didn't notice any backlight coming out of the back, but that's not my experience. While I've seen worse, this one projects a good bit of backlight out through all the vents onto the wall. I guess I can live with it, but why? None of my others had this issue either.

I was considering returning it, but don't feel like going through the hastle and don't want to spend a bunch more money to get a higher-end set. I decided to change my wall mount to a tilt mount and angle the TV downward, with it slighly higher on the wall and that helps a good bit because it gets the viewing angel of the TV perfectly alligned with my viewing area, so it looks pretty good now and I can deal with it.

Bottom line, I'm going to be happy with it, but I'm not truly happy! I wouldn't recommend this one personally and if I had to do it over I probably would have gone with the 40" Samsung instead, or paid a little more to get a 42" or 46" Samsung.

    Update on 6/23/2010

After trying to make myself like this TV for 3 days I decided to return it. It is just that bad! Even with the tilt wall mount it still isn't good. The blacks are still very gray and there is so much bright gray coming thru the LCD panel that it just washes out everything and lights up the lower half of my bedroom brightly, even when there's no picture displayed. That and all the backlight purring out of the back onto the walls, which is now much more noticeable with the tilt mount.

I went ahead and ordered the 40" samsung that I probably should have got it the first place and Amazon is making the process easy. They said they will pick up the bad one when they deliver the new one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Price Performer, March 22, 2010
This is my first HDTV purchase and am pleased so far. (Read as I don't know much about this). Setup was simple; the price was right and it has some popular energy-saving features.

The picture was sharp and clear. Multiple preset modes (cinema, game, normal) make setup easy, but there are also custom, fine-tuning adjustments available. It does not appear to have network/internet capability, but I will purchase a Blue-ray DVD player with that feature separately. The unit has an optical audio out so I can use my older receiver for 5.1 sound.

The remote feels cheap, but gets the job done. I imagine one rarely uses the manufacturer's TV remote so LG (and other makers) probably do not spend much on them. I did not notice any backlight seeping out of case which I understand is a problem on some TVs.

For an entry-level buyer, this was a solid purchase. I paid $658 - I thought that was reasonable for a 1080p set in 42". I rated it 4 stars on because I do not have much product knowledge (yet).

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded Expectations, Very Pleased, November 10, 2010
After shopping a lot locally and checking all the brands in person, I found this model on Amazon priced several hundred $$ UNDER the the best local price, and free shipping (and no local sales tax).

The TV took about 2 weeks to arrive, it sat in a St Louis warehouse for a week waiting for a truck to head to Columbia. (The delivery service only comes to Columbia once a week.) The delivery service unpacked the unit and checked for DOA, a nice touch!

This LG 42" is AMAZING. I watch broadcast TV and streaming Netflix. The HD1080 broadcasts are so sharp, it just blows me away. I find myself watching stupid TV shows just to admire the HD1080 image quality. The streaming Netflix is in 720p but still very nice. I may upgrade my broadband and ROKU box just to get the HD1080. This unit makes it worth it.

The LG specs are impressive, super fast response, high contrast etc. I am COMPLETELY PLEASED with this unit and cannot understand why others charge so much more for units that do not come close to the picture quality of this set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised, October 11, 2010
We purchased this TV for our study, a small dark room specifically meant for watching movies and playing video games.

We sort of knew what to expect because we had a 42" LG in our main area already, but it was an earlier model. Still, we were happy with the first one, and after some exhaustive research, chose to buy the newer model.

We also chose the 60hz version because the TV's main function was to be for videogames and film. The jury is still a little out on the whole 120hz issue (there are always conflicting reviews and articles about whether or not it produces undesirable effects on either format, but I suspect that it does) and we would prefer to watch films as they were meant to be seen (with a persistence-of-vision effect on the eye at a refresh-rate mismatch) and play games without possible ghosting effects. If our intention was to watch hi-def or digital television, especially sports channels, we might have gone another route.

The unit arrived with no defects, and after several weeks of heavy use, nothing has come up as an issue. No dead pixels, not dark areas of screen, no odd noises or colors or blurs.

This TV definitely delivers. Crisp, bright picture that can easily be dialed in to fit your ambient lighting and surroundings, perfectly acceptable sound quality, simple remote and setup, easy assembly on the included stand. And at $600, it's far less money than many of the comparable models.

The only unusual feature is that the included stand does not tilt forward or backward, which can make placement tricky. This minor oversight is not enough to warrant a poor review, or even cost a star. This would be a non-issue with a wall-mount.

I've had Sony XBRs, and while this doesn't quite have the contrast and crispness those did, it does deliver a beautiful picture that will please all but the most discerning and critical eye.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just got it - so far so good, October 12, 2010
We got this TV for our grandMa, so it was important to get something that was very simple and easy to use and setup. In order to see if it worked, I plugged it in and connected the hdmi cable from our cable box. it took about 10 minutes to scan for channels, and found nothing. Duh! after switching the input from antenna to hdmi, it was up and running.

picture looks great right out of the box. played with picture wizard a bit, but honestly the factory default is just about perfect. image is bright & clear. setup mode even looks great. blacks are outstanding - I guess the 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio makes a big difference.

remote is simple and intuitive. I looked at all the options, played with clearvoice, which I'm sure grandMa will appreciate, it's all as simple and easy as I'd hoped it would be.

off-axis viewing was great. I'd seen a review that said it was horrible, my guess is that was a defective set.

so, on first impression, it's a great value for the $$ and exactly what we needed for grandma. if I have any reason to change my opinion, I'll make an edit later.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the price., October 21, 2010
I bought this tv because it was cheaper than the LG 37" tv and because of the 2 year financing on it. I am amazed by how nice this lcd looks and performs. We have a 46" Toshiba lcd that is about a year old, and this one blows it away....faster response times on everything from changing channels to anything. Has a good picture even on basic cable. Xbox 360 works and looks great on it. Very satisfied with this lcd.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Consumer Experience, September 10, 2010
I recently bought this TV from J&R and had an horrible experience.

On the first day everything was fine: the TV was working and the image quality is indeed really nice. However, one week after I installed it, the TV just went blank. I've contacted LG's support center and they told me that I couldn't get a replacement TV - although my purchase was just a week old - and I had to wait for a technician, which would come to my house only in the following week.

I've searched the web for my problem, and it seemed to me that it was a problem with the power supply board of the TV (and it seems like a common problem, as I found it pretty quickly in a lot of messaging boards). Today, the technician arrived and came to the same conclusion: a faulty power supply. However, they don't have a spare part, and I should wait until they order one from LG's and schedule another technician visit, which should take another 1-2 weeks. The end result: in my first month with the TV, I'll probably had been able to use for just a couple of days.

The image quality is really good, so as the price was. However, please be aware of this kind of problems before you buy one of these !

It took me a lot of researching and critical thinking to purchase my first HDTV. I decided to wait all these years and I am SOOOOOOO happy to have waited. This LG HDTV is perhaps the best TV for the PRICE!. It has UNBELIEVABLE picture quality with JUST AN OVER THE AIR ANTENA! Forget about the 120 hz, 240 hz, this TV is AMAZING at 60 hz! If you don't have CABLE or SATELITE service, don't worry, this TV performs perfectly with over the air signal with a good rabbit ear antena. That is because this TV has a built-in tuner that will adjust to provide you the best picture quality (USE THE PICTURE WIZARD TO HELP YOU, IS VERY EASY TO USE). I am VERY HAPPY with my purchase. I am an AMAZON PRIME customer and I paid $3.99 for overnight delivery! I bought this TV on Blackfriday and received it, via FEDEX, next day Saturday 9:30am!!! AMAZON HAS AMAZING CUSTOMER AND DELIVERY SERVICE!!! THANK YOU AMAZON, YOU HAVE MADE MY HOLIDAY SEASON MERRY! GOD BLESS YOU!

    SINCERELY,

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Value, May 20, 2010
This is the first LCD TV I've bought so I did a tone of research before finally settling on this unit.

Things I love about this TV:

-The backlight on this thing turns way up so you don't have to worry about having dark scenes like in Interview with the vampire you can't see. The wide viewing angle is also great.

-On the quick menu you can easily change the sound between Music and Cinema and I can actually hear the difference. Yes they are tv speakers not surround sound but for my studio apartment it is more then adequate.

-I noticed I was getting a little noise on the sound when I had the Clear Voice on but totally fixed it when I put the Auto Volume option on in the audio main menu.

-I keep the tv on a lot for music during the day since I work from home and there is this great button on the remote labeled energy where you can quickly adjust from 100% which is the best for viewing to maximum energy saving. I like this not only for the energy savings but also to save the back light from 100% constant use.

-I noticed that one of my shows off of my Roku (digital box that streams netflix) wasn't HD and the picture wasn't looking to hot. I adjusted on the picture main menu the aspect ratio to Just Scan and it actually cleaned it up really nicely. This is important, several of my friends have really ritzy tv set ups but if it's not HD the picture is almost unbearable. This one you can watch older movies/tv shows and HD without having to fiddle with everything to get a good picture.

-Overall picture quality can be adjusted by so many advanced options that if you play with it I'm sure you can get exactly what you want.

-I know it is 720 versus 1080 but at this price range when I looked at the specs if you go for 1080 it seems that you will get dark spots in dark scenes and it's refresh rate will be so low that you will notice it in quick scenes plus the audio seemed unreliable. I think at this 32inch size 720 is really not that noticeable.

Very satisfied customer. Only complaint is you need 4 screws to attach the tv to it's base and my baggy only came with 3 in it. Luckily the hardware store is right down the street so I was able to get something comparable instead of waiting for them to ship it.

Do your self a favor, get some good HDMI cables with noise reduction that can handle full HD (found some on amazon for like $7). I haven't experienced any blurring at all on this tv while watching movies/shows like others have commented about. Regular cables don't cut it and you won't want to wait when your tv arrives.

    Happy Viewing

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome!, August 8, 2010
I have been waiting patiently for a few years now to make the switch from my 480i Toshiba 32" CRT to an HDTV. Thanks to a decent tax return I was finally able to join the Hi Def club. I live in a small apartment and already had a nice entertainment center which housed my aging Toshiba so I chose to stay with the 32" screen format as anything larger would not fit. After doing weeks of research it came down to this LG or the Samsung LN32C350. I found the picture quality to be almost identical and the price was the same for both, $399.00. I chose the LG because I got 10% off with a online coupon and no tax and free shipping from another online retailer. I couldn't be happier! This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The TV is fantastic!, picture is bright, sharp, clear and gorgeous. The contrast ratio listed here is wrong though...it's not 50,000:1...it's actually 70,000:1...which is even better. I love the remote, easy to use menu and all the functions and options you can tweak. it's such an unbelievable difference seeing TV shows and movies in Hi Def. I can't comment on the sound as I have the TV speakers turned off because I have a pretty kick-ass surround sound system. I am A Dish Network subscriber and have it hooked to my VIP612 receiver and am loving it...also finally able to play my Xbox 360 in Hi Def and that is Da Bomb too!...BF:BC2 looks amazing! I was debating whether to get a 1080p or a 720p TV for a long time...then I found out (which I didn't realise) all HD TV signals...OTA (over the air), DirecTv, Cable, Dish Network are all broadcast in 720p/1080i...and since I don't watch blu-ray movies...spending extra money on a 1080p set just wouldn't make sense...also...on a TV 32" or less..the benefits of watching in 1080p are negligible. 720p looks phenomenal! It has a 1 year parts and labor warranty, and after you register it with LG you can extend your warranty by 2 years for $48...provided you do it in the 1st 180 days after purchase, so altogether you get a 3 year warranty for $48...from the manufacturer...not some 3rd party outfit, that's pretty good...I'll be doing that b4 my 180 days are up. I can't recommend this TV more...I am now an LG fanboy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth a buy for the price., April 27, 2010
*** See posts from U. Viveros (Aug 8th) for info on the panel display on this tv***

Picture quality on this tv is excellent (it has an IPS panel), black levels are impressive, color is vibrant. And you can tweak the picture to your likeing with a ton of various options. Took me a while to get the picture quality just right for gaming, HD content and SD content. SD tv actually looks pretty good on this tv, suprisingly sharp picture quality on it. Though this being a LCD tv the picture isn't crystal clear, in darker areas you can see some obvious blurring or trailing (but only if you really want to notice, and its not as bad as the latest Samsung), in brighter areas blurring is not noticeable at all (in Modern Warfare 2 for example darker wood textures you can see the blur when moving, on brighter wall textures there is no blur).

Speakers are decent, not going to blow you away with the sound but they aren't complete crap either. Like the picture - sound also has various tweaking options.

Remote is pretty standard, doesn't look cheap and doesn't go overboard with the options. But is has everything you'd accept to be on it.

Also has a headphone jack (and unlike Samsungs you can control the volume of the headphone jack with your remote).

You can also display pictures or play music with a usb stick, I don't think I'll be using this feature. Would've been nice if it allowed you to play videos from the usb stick...but they only have that feature on their higher end models.

One problem is that if you switch the input to hdmi and then go back to AV or TV input...there is no sound. You have the turn off the tv and turn is back again to get the sound back.

    4/5.

I paid $[...], amazon now dropped the price.

    4-0 out of 5 stars A Practical Review, July 24, 2010
I base my rating on the value for the money and how I plan to use the TV as opposed to a comparison to newer TVs on the market.

720p which is perfectly suitable for my needs. While I haven't yet attached a PC to this device my understanding is that 1080p is where you want to be if using as a PC monitor is of importance. On another note I wouldn't say this is great looking or cheap looking TV. Just a very middle of the road appearance.

    Pro
    * Nice picture with rich color.
    * Nice picture controls (backlight, contrast, brightness, color, tint,H-sharpness, V-Sharpness, etc)
    * Nice menuing system
    * The remote is basic without being cheap or annoying. Rubberized keys but they do not glow. The remote is not too big or too small either.
    * Standard Definition TV looks pretty good on this TV. I use the mode that automatically resizes the image based on the signal which means I view std tv in a 4:3 box (I do not stretch).

    Cons
    * The power on light is too large and annoying (at least 2" wide). The same light turns red when off and that is my problem. I don't need or want a light that tells me the TV is off. (Blue=on and No Light would have been preferrable). Perhaps I can disable or tape over it.
    * The speakers are NOT front firing. They fire to the back or down. This may be a problem for some. I currently have it in a cabinet and it sounds fine but speakers on the bottom facing forward would be better. If you plan to use external speakers then this doesn't really matter.
    * No S-Video. To some with Standard Quality cable (not HD) the S-video provides the best image but unfortunately it isn't avail.

In summation I think this TV is a nice value from a name brand manufacturer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, November 21, 2010
This was my father's day present, and I was so excited. We researched 32-inch TVs a lot, and this one seemed like the best for the price. Man, what a lemon. And LG customer service has been really disappointing. The picture went black five weeks after we bought it - just a few days after the 30-day warranty from Future Shop. Future Shop wouldn't give us an exchange, and LG said we had to take it to a repair shop. The nearest one is a 40-minute drive from our house. It was in the shop a month.

A couple of months later, the picture stopped working again. LG still won't replace it. So that means another three hours of driving to drop off and return to pick up the TV. The repair shop says LG policy is they won't replace it until after three breakdowns. I could just see that happening a day after the one-year warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great bedroom TV for the money!, August 22, 2010
I just bought this TV to replace a 5 year old LCD TV I previously had in my bedroom. For the money, this is a great TV even with the lower contrast ratio compared to more expensive models. I typically buy Samsung LCD and LED TVs but the low price of this LG tempted me to try something new and so far I have no regrets. Other reviewers have done a great job at highlighting what is great about the TV so I am not going to repeat what they have already said.

I did, however, want to make a quick mention of the resolution. LG says that this TV is only 720p but my PS3 detected it as supporting 1080p. I've heard of people being able to force certain 720p TVs to do 1080p and it appears that this TV is perhaps one of them. I did play a couple of my PS3 games that are in 1080p and the TV did, in fact, run in 1080p looking great so... take that for what its worth.

For a TV that can be had for under $400, this is a great buy.

I was looking for a TV for my master bedroom for about $400. This was by far the best tv for the price and value. Rich picture, great sound and awesome black levels. Not an 1080? Yea, you can't notice a difference with a 32" TV. Not 120 Hz, why buy? Believe me, this is not a living room TV for entertaining family. This is a side room tv that is a nice upgrade from a tube TV. Great TV, 'nuff said.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning Picture Quality, June 22, 2010
I bought this TV couple of months ago from Walmart. What a stunning picture quality it has. It stood out from all the TVs on display around it due to it's vivid color and crisp picture. We bought it immediately and no regret. We love the picture quality. Sound quality is average as they say how it is in the flat TVs. Hence I bought a home theater system to complement it's picture quality and now we have stunning picture with amazing sound. Watching TV/movies is more fun than ever. With the home theater system, the sound is now balanced and there is no shocking sound level increase during the commercials.

The remote is nice and I like the quick setup button which pops up a circular dialogue box on the TV with most frequently used settings.

It has two HDMI inputs altough some competition TVs have more than 2 HDMI inputs. It also features a digital optical audio out and number of other traditional connectors including VGA input so that you could use it as a monitor for your computer.

This is my first big-item order from Amazon and the Fedex guy brought it up to my apartment door, instead of the usual main entrance quick drop-off. I suppose it was because Amazon did not pack the TV into their standard packing boxes and it'd be a different kind of "steal" if left at my apartment building entrance.

Setting up wasn't that difficult despite confusing instructions from the manual. Two points to note:

    1. Have a long-stemmed Philips screwdriver. I had to get a 4-inch stem from the hardware store. Thankfully it was just down the street.

    2. You can pretty much set up without the manual because there is only one way to fix the TV base (which consists of the flat base and the "trunk"). Just match the distance between the screw holes for both parts.

The only grouse I have is one missing spongy-rubber pad. There're supposed to be 8 but I had only 7.

Auto-tuning was a breeze, after which you can customize sound/picture settings to your preferences. I must say, the "clear voice" option is real sweet. So good luck and enjoy your purchase. As with all other electric appliances, they aren't built to last indefinitely anyway as manufacturers need the revenue. I'll be happy if it lasts me 5 years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good TV, Very Good Bargain, November 19, 2010
I bought this LG set as a second TV to replace an old 27" CRT standard def set. I have not used this LG to watch HD TV or movies, but have used it to play HD games on an Xbox 360. The picture quality during the games is very good. On any 32" set, I think you'll find a 720P picture to be more than adequate to enjoy the HD picture. Like most LCD TVs I've seen, this set doesn't produce a deep, rich black screen (there's still a little bit of a lightness effect on the default settings on a black screen), but this seems to be standard for LCDs (at least the ones that are not LED types, I haven't seen one of the LEDs up close). Standard def pictures are a little grainy, but this seems par for the course with HDTVs- I've never seen one that looks as good as an old CRT when displaying a standard def picture. I was surprised by the sound quality. When playing Halo: Reach, the simulated surround sound was pretty good - I could hear explosions and dialogue behind me when I was seated in the sweet spot in front of the TV. It's not going to match a separate surround sound system, but its not bad for a "small" TV speaker system. My main complaint about the set is that it has only two HDMI inputs, and the stand for the TV was a little bit awkward to screw into place (make sure you have a phillips screwdriver with a decent-length shaft). I definitely recommend this LG for those who want a second HDTV, or for the budget-conscious folks who want a small HDTV and don't care about having all the bells and whistles.

First, let me clarify that the TV is, in fact, native 1080p. No question about it.

Second, the panel on this TV is made by Samsung, and the quality is excellent.

Third, TCL's website has a find service center location search and it is quite extensive ..

Based on the two year warrantee, what I am seeing with my TV and Amazons excellent delivery, I'm giving this set a Best Buy rating ..

UPDATE 11/16/2010 .. this set is just plain excellent .. and Amazon service is top of the line .. my set developed a thin blue vertical line, I contacted Amazon, they picked up the set the next day and delivered a new set at the same time .. hard to beat that ..

Update 11/17/2010 .. it's a bit tiresome getting messages from folks who 1) don't have the TV and want to slam it in a public review 2)Know little to nothing about TV's .. I had an electronic repair business for 10 years and I've worked on a lot of TV's .. so I know what I'm talking about .. any TV by any maker is not 100% perfect 100% of the time .. I stand by the fact that this is a great set .. hey, if you don't want to buy it, go get something from the local 'Mart or what not .. or get nothing at all .. matters not to me .. I think you'll be missing out on a great deal, however ..

UPDATE 12/08/2010 .. Thanks to Original Aspect Ratio .... you might try this on any remote and see if it works .. what have you got to lose .. ?? .. keep in mind that this TV has been branded as RCA in the past ..
I have a Logitech Harmony remote. When I select "RCA L32HD41" the tv works 100% as far as I can tell.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I had not heard of the TCL brand before and did a little bit of research to find out that they're a Chinese company that has manufactured products for domestic sales since the mid-80s. Now they are selling their products here. The concern with any unknown brand would be longevity - will the TV last past the warranty? I can't comment on that, of course, because I've only had this TV for a few days. I can say that it was very easy to set up, and it produces a nice sharp picture. In addition to good HD streaming, it also produces a very nice image on the standard-definition channels. The sound from the speakers is a little flat, so if you care about high-quality sound, I would recommend connecting external speakers. At 40 inches, it's a nice size for a smaller living area. An attachable stand is included. There is no hardware included for wall mounting. It probably took me 10 minutes from the time I got the TV out of the box to having it up and running with stand attached. You'll need an HD cable to connect to your cable box or other receiver. Then you set the TV input to the HDMI setting, and you're watching TV. If you want to set your cable/universal remote to operate this TV, you may have a problem, since TCL is a newer brand and may not be included in your receiver's list of brand codes.

Overall, this is a very nice TV at a good price. The two-year warranty should take some of the concerns out of purchasing, but I'll be interested to see how the TV does in the long run.

    TCL L40FHDF11TA 40-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV with 2-Year Warranty, Black

    Summary
    Pros:
Good price, quick no cost Amazon Prime delivery, decent picture, decent sound, tunes via RF to both cable analog, digital, and HD and over the air digital HD, lightweight, shipped in original box, 2 year warranty, works with both PS3 and Xbox 360, 1080i from cable box via component cables only

    Cons:
Odd behavior with all three HDMI inputs, TV reports 720p via HDMI from 1080i HD cable box, plain vanilla no bells or whistles, shipped with half charged batteries, picture turns on a bit slowly, only one component input

    *************************
    EDITED 11-28-10
I've been told that reporting an input of 720p rather than 1080i from the cable box is a GOOD thing, although this is odd behavior from a native 1080p display in my experience. In addition according to the users manual the issue I experienced with the PS3 and HDMI input should resolve with unplugging and plugging back in the TV. Please bear this in mind when reading my review. I have revised my rating upward to 4 stars.

    **************************

I've had this TV for about two weeks now, keeping it on pretty much 24/7; I want to discover any immediately developing problems as this will be a Christmas gift.

I've had it hooked up to cable via the RF input, and receive analog, digital, and a few HD channels from Comcast, as expected. No problems, nice picture, pretty good sound, easy setup, not too slow to change channels. RF cable and Xbox 360 component input is my intended end use. Just remember to point the remote to the lower left hand corner when standing close, and have a pair of fresh AAA alkaline batteries handy.

I was going to wait a while longer to review the L40FHDF11TA; I've been slowly testing the inputs. However, I have found an issue that could be a deal breaker for some:

The TV HDMI inputs do not recognize a 1080i input signal from my Comcast box, a Motorola DVR DCH 3416. The TV reports a 720p input signal on all three HDMI inputs. It does correctly report a 1080i input signal via component cables only from the cable box, however hook the HDMI back in to the TV and both inputs report 720p by the TCL L40FHDF11TA. These are the input signal reports from the TV only, the TCL L40FHDF11TA will deinterlace (with 1080i) or scale up (with 720p) to display 1080p in either case.

Here is what I have found in testing the inputs as reported by the TV:

    HDMI
1080p correct with PS3, both native and blu ray; reliably with HDMI input 2 only (work around available, see above)
1080i correct with up converting Phillips DVD player, all three HDMI inputs
720p unexpected with above mentioned Comcast cable box, all three inputs

Component (remember there is only one of these)
1080i correct with Comcast cable box, but will reoprt 720p if HDMI from cable box is also plugged in
1080p correct with native Xbox 360, 480p with DVD playing (no upconversion)
    480p correct from ReplayTV

    Composite
480i correct from portable DVD player

    S-Video
    not available with TCL L40FHDF11TA

    RF
correct input direct from Comcast cable, analog, digital, and 1080i HD signal working, no further information

    Audio inputs in (analog) working

    Headphone out working

USB media in JPEG working, no mp4 or AVI support

SPDF digital audio out not tested

    VGA not tested

    DVI/Computer audio in not tested

    Audio output (analog) not tested

The TCL L40FHDF11TA 40-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV meets my needs; however the lack of multiple legacy inputs coupled with the odd behavior of at least some of the HDMI inputs with at least some HDMI sources should be carefully considered by any buyer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Price! Great TV!, August 27, 2010

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have never heard of "TCL." In a world where brand-recognition often provides the confidence needed for a consumer to invest in it, I suppose you could say I was dubious of this television's quality. Nonetheless, I soon became a convert ...

Foremost, I ordered this item on a Thursday at about 3:00 PM ... and it literally arrived the next morning at about 8:30AM. Having not requested overnight delivery (because it was not an option), I was already impressed. (And for those who worry about purchasing electronics online, this television was handled with care. Not a ding in the box. Perfect transit!) Then, when I went to lift the box, I was bracing for a heavy trudge to the living-room. It turned out to be surprisingly light. I have two other flat-screens: a Polaroid and a Samsung. Both are pretty hefty. I worried that weight had some correlation to quality. Wrong again. The picture quality is more vibrant than I expected ... the whites and blacks, very crisp. Similarly, the sound is full and lush. (Both picture and sound are fully adjustable and customizable).

The set-up was a snap: unscrew the stand from the back of the tv & attach it to the base ... plug-in, connect cable, and scan for channels. Done.

The remote control is full-sized and ergonomically correct. My only complaint is that the batteries were not included (even though the description here states otherwise). Finally, there was no product guide (my box only included a double-sided set-up sheet). Now, let me be honest ... I think product guides are a waste of paper. (These things are pretty self-explanatory). But some older consumers may not know how to adjust color, personalize sound, or even update the date/time. So, while I think this omission is acceptable (if not welcome) by most, it may prove a shock to others. (Neither of these minute "problems" were troubling enough to warrant a star-deduction). Moreover, it does state in the description that both of these items should be in the box ... so maybe this will not even be an issue for you.

Bravo for the "little touches." For instance, a sleep-timer (with multiple options) turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Love that!

Worried about the "TCL" brand? Let me put your mind at ease. This television is gorgeous, even when powered-off (aesthetically on par with my Samsung). The colors and blacks are exactly what I would see in a more expensive brand. The sound is impressive. And, the set-up ... a breeze. And, seriously, I loathe when companies cheap-out on the remote ... no need to worry about that here! (Just be sure to buy some batteries before your new television arrives). I cannot gush enough about this exemplary product, so buy this TCL with confidence. You will not regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars TCL, who's that? Who Cares, TV is awesome!, November 21, 2010

So I bought this TV last week on sale. I'd been in the market for like 2 weeks, it was driving me crazy. Samsung, LG, Sony, 1080p, 720P, 3D, 60hz, 120hz. Its nuts. Then this went on sale for with free shipping and a 2 year warranty. I was like what the what!

Mainly I wanted something 40-46 inch with 1080p. I didn't care about internet connectivity and for that price you better not either. That feature commands a premium I guess.

Who's TLC I said...there were a few reviews (mostly positive) and the price was right so I took the plunge.

Boy am I happy I did, I'm no videophile/audiophile but from what I can tell the picture and sound is pretty darn good. I've hooked my xbox 360 and new bluray player to it and to my untrained eye it's pretty awesome.
You'll have to tweak with the picture settings to work out some contrast issues (blacks seem to blend a bit but adjusting the brightness seemed to help greatly)

Overall I'm extremely happy, like I said I'm no video quality freak but for a normal dude that's just trying to get his Xbox and bluray on in 1080p its 100% satisfying. Also I'm watching football today over cable at 1080i and its great. I was little worried about the 60hz but I don't see any issues.

At its current price its still a steal, unless you can find a name brand with the same specs for the same price and the only reason I say that is cause all my peeps always have a good laugh at me every time they see my weird low priced electronics. They're such elitists, hopefully your friends are more grounded ;)

I had a "Soyo" LCD tv before this. Never heard of them? Yeah doesn't surprise me. What can I say I love a bargain and to be honest these upstarts haven't disappointed me yet. Though I think Soyo went out of business LOL.

Back to the point If you're on the fence about picture quality, don't. I think for most people its gonna be just fine. Like mickey D's I'm loving it.

Had to write a review for others like me who hadn't heard of the brand and were skeptical. This TV rocks ! It has a 2 yr warranty and a beautiful picture. I bought one for my mom , because her old HDTV broke. I spent over $800 on a Samsung 32 inch about 2 years ago (bought through Amazon) , and man do I regret that because the price on TV's dropped like crazy right after. This TV is just as good WITH MORE FEATURES than my Samsung. for the price you can't beat it , I got it for $320 !

Bought this for my college dorm this year and it works great! The picture is just as good as my samsung at home! My xbox 360 in HD looks amazing in 720p, you won't be able to tell the difference between 1080p at 32 inches. It's easy to set up right out of the box and the best thing is that it comes with a 2 YEAR WARRANTY! Overall for 320 dollars it provides great value! I don't think you'll find a new 32 inch TV cheaper anywhere else. Give it a chance!

I purchased this TV based on fairly good reviews, good price and two year warranty. On TCL/USA website they list two warranty service companies in my area of Overland Park,Kansas. I contacted both of these companies and they do not service TCL televisions. I contacted TCL customer Support at 1-877-300-8837 and they would not tell me where I could get warranty service other than to look at their website. So what good is a warranty if you cannot get any service? I hope someone with TCL sees this post and responds. I also think Amazon.com should look into this problem since they make a big deal about the two year warranty. Let the buyer beware.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I already have a 50" plasma in the living room, so I jumped at the chance to see what an LCD screen had to offer. I set it up in my bedroom, upgraded to an HD box and turned it on.

The image is gorgeous! Crystal clear and bright. The colors, at times, appear a bit more saturated than those on the plasma, but that's neither a pro nor a con, as both sets have their shining moments. In particular, the LCD does extremely well with graphics that include vectors and sharp lines.

I love that, unlike the plasma, the lamp in my room casts no reflection on the screen. That's been a downside to the plasma, but with the LCD, it's a non-issue. In addition, it shows better in bright daylight than the plasma.

The only downside -- if you can call it that -- is that I haven't been able to figure out the remote code to configure my Comcast/Xfinity remote to control the TV's power and volume.

The 32" size is perfect for my bedroom, and has given me an awesome viewing experience from my very own bed. As with my plasma, I purchased an HDMI cable to achieve the absolute best performance. They're expensive, but worth it.

Included in the packaging are the TV, easy-to-assemble stand, four screws, remote and an instruction sheet.

    Great product!

With so much confusion regarding the TV and it's specs, I figured a video review might be the best for resolving that issue. Amazon limits the size and length of Video Reviews pretty badly, so it can be found on YouTube here: [[...]] On many forum sites, the following questions often come up, and here's the answer to them as well:

    Matte or Glossy Screen?
    - Semi-Glossy. No glare is noticed during video playback, and when staring into the screen in the off position, it's not a mirror, like some Toshiba or HP laptops have.

Seriously, is this 1080p or 720p? I read it's one and the other on a lot of websites.
    - Interestingly, the TV accepts a 1080p signal, but displays it with the amount of pixels it has the capability of displaying, which is 1366 x 768. You'll see some examples in the video.

I heard it has no buttons on the TV display itself, so if you lose the remote, you're screwed. Is this true?
    - No, absolutely not. On the left side, towards the top, there's a Power button, volume and channel changing options, and a menu button.

What files does the USB connection support?
    - The TV lets you choose between "photo" and "music" modes during USB play. So videos don't work from the USB itself.
    - From my tests, the following worked: jpg, png, mp3,
    - And these didn't: .txt, .wmv, .mkv, .avi, .ico, .flac,

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Price, Great Product, October 10, 2010

4-0 out of 5 stars Visio SRS - I have absolutely NO sound problems, August 5, 2010
I have this TV and enjoy the sound and picture quality. I'm a soundaholic. If you've never had a stereo or srs/home theater sound... it DOES take some time to adjust. The sound can be *VERY INTENSE*.

I suggest you adjust the sound; turn the TruSurround HD sound *TO OFF*, but do leave the TruVolumn *ON* (you can enter the graphic equalizer presets) use these to set the quality sound you enjoy most. When you do this it's of course 'best' to be playing music, music dvd IS BEST.

If you SET the preset equalizer setting to *FLAT OR OFF*... you will be able to enter and customize the settings on your (*bass & treble*) levels.

Don't hesitate to play around with the sound settings, one click will return it to the factory settings.

You will require a lower volumn level, significantly lower... the audio quality IS dynamic and intense for this TV.

2-0 out of 5 stars There are definitely sound issues with this model, November 11, 2010
I got this on a Gold Box deal for $[...] (normally $[...]). This was to be used in the sunroom...which we could fit a 26 or a 32 in the spot. I also bought two Vizio Razor LED 26" http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M260VA-26-Inch-Class-RazorLED/dp/B003LL17HK at the same time for bedrooms for $[...] each (pre-black Friday special).

Living with all of them for four days...and I can see why this is rated 3/5 stars.

I am using cable through RF. No cable box. The sound issues I noticed is flipping between digital channels and analog. For example, watching two football games. If I go from an analog station like ESPN to Digital (local ABC), the sound on the digital channel is much lower. I have to jack the volume up on the digital station, then when I flip back to ESPN, it's way too loud.

ABC HD/digital is 13-1 and ABC analog is 13. I proved the sound issue flipping back and forth between the two while a song was playing on the station... huge difference in sound.

This is with TruVolume on....TruSurround on. Honestly, I didn't play too much with the audio settings like another reviewer suggested because I shouldn't have to. TruVolume should level out the sound between channels and commercials...and it apparently doesn't work.

Another annoying thing is there is a delay when changing channels. You flip up one channel...it delays 2 seconds...shows the picture and then delays another second to start sound. Sounds minor until you start flipping channels and realize the annoyance...we had a cheap AOC LCD TV that did something similar...which is why I will never buy an AOC TV again.

The Razor LED TV hooked up to the same RF cable does not have this delay...the picture and volume come up in a second simultaneously. Also, the sound difference is much less...there is one, but its minimal and you don't have to change the volume level.

The picture is not quite as nice as the Razor LED...but pretty good. I did not try this with our DVR...but if you are hooking this up to a cable box and bypassing the tuner, you might not have these issues with sound and delay. I don't want to have to rent another cable box to make this TV work. Plus I am not buying a computer monitor, I am buying a HDTV with a tuner that should work better.

I like the Razor LED's, so this just appears to be a bad model in their line. The Razor LED 32" is a 1080p set (http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M320VT-32-Inch-1080p-Backlighting/dp/B003PGX0VM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289411221&sr=1-1) and a bit more than we want to spend ($[...]). I saw that in a store and it's nice.

So four days in...and although 32" is significantly bigger than 26"...it's already at UPS tonight on its way back. I'll use one of the Vizio 26" Razors as it's just a much better overall TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sound is great! Check the SRS TruVolume settings!, November 26, 2010
I think that the Vizio folks should have made the default to OFF on the SRS TruVolume. If they had I think several of the owners would not be experiencing the issues with the sound. I set mine up, read the reviews, turned OFF the SRS TruVolume feature and now the sound is fine.
I'm not sure how high the volume will go. I've got mine on "2" and it is plenty loud and very clear.

I purchased this to use with my new Xbox 360 with Kinect. I'm replacing a 19" Sanyo that was purchased in 1989 by my older brother. So, maybe my expectations are not very high...for $299 I'm pleased and it is a tremendous step up from what I had.

3-0 out of 5 stars sound problems, August 4, 2010
I am perfectly happy with picture on the Visio, but the sound is a terrible
problem. My previous TVs sound stayed at between 3 and 6. The Visio is all
over the place. Hard to hear or blasting from station to station it conatantly
changes and on a single station I have to keep adjusting the sound. I am
    very, very disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sound advice, July 28, 2010
I purchased this item from Costco. It was priced at least $100 less than a comparable Sony Or Panasonic. I hadn't read the reviews beforehand. The sound would go from extremely loud to barely audible without anyone adjusting the volume control. I looked up the reviews and sure enough there were similar complaints. I returned it the next day and bought a Sony.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sad day for Vizio, September 16, 2010
Bought the TV at a great price, but right out of the box the sound quality was bad. The volume would jump around, hitting extreme highs and lows on its own, I didn't even have to touch the remote. After the fifth day, two lines appeared near the bottom of the screen, which signaled that a whole two rows of pixels had died.
The plastic surrounding the screen was cheaply made and had warped.
I upgraded to a Samsung 32" and so far so good.

    4-0 out of 5 stars E320VA, August 31, 2010
Shipped to my door, unpacked and on the wall in 30 minutes.. Great picture, great sound, can't seem to get the closed captioning to work, but I think thats more of a Satelite reciever thing than the TV. The "Vizio" light in front is a little bright for a nightlight, it stays on when the TV is off so it works like a nightlight.. No problem.. took a black Sharpie, and colored over it.. now it's not so bright.. Other than those petty things it's a great TV.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Solid, August 4, 2010
As mentioned already about the sound quality. You definitely got to adjust the volume as it can get really loud or really soft. The picture quality is amazing though. The home setting might be a little dark. I prefer the movie setting or sports setting to get a little more light. It's a very good deal for the price they offer. Many HDTV's seem to struggle with sound quality but at least this one has some bass to it. And like I said. It's an easy fix by changing the volume for each program or a loud part of a program. Definitely recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Audio Deficiency, August 23, 2010
I have always been a fan of Panasonic and as a matter of fact have a 50" Panasonic in the family room. But they apparently are trying to cut costs on this model. The audio is so bad that the only way to hear anything from a few feet away is to maximize the treble setting, minimize the bass setting, and turn the volume up to its maximum setting. Unfortunately this creates a very "tinny" sound that is not something that a tv in this price range should have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good HDTV, October 16, 2010
This is a very good HDTV. A little difficult to hook-up the DVD/VHS player, but that may be the fault of the Player itself. Sound Volume is a bit soft, but OK.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Great 22 inch LCD, November 30, 2010
This little LCD hasn't got the credit it deserves, (3.5 stars ??). We got this LCD to replace a 15 year old 26 inch RCA tube TV in our bedroom. We were contemplating a 26 inch LCD, but decided to go with the 22 inch. We are very big fans of all TVs Panasonic; 1 plasma, 1 TAU and now 1 LCD. It has beautiful imagery and great sound. The menu is very intuitive with many options to fine tune the picture and audio. Speakers are just fine for a bedroom. The docking system is great. Our room is 12x12 and I can't believe these reviewers that put a 42 inch TV in their 12x12 bedrooms. Way too big. With the lights on the TV appears small but the picture is so clear and crisp it makes up for it. All text is very easy to read from 10 feet away. With the lights off you would be hard pressed to guess it's only a 22 inch. If you need to upgrade a TV for your bedroom, this TV is an excellent choice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does so much yet so little., December 7, 2010
The problem with a device that tries to do everything, is that often it doesn't do enough of it right.

This device has three main functions:
    1) Its a TV.
    2) Its a computer monitor.
    3) Its an iPhone accessory - charger/screen/speakers.

The reason I bought this TV is because it works with the iPhone. Yes, thats what won me over. Its a fair price for a TV, and then the iPod/iPhone connect was really a bonus. So I bought it.

    Ipod/Iphone usage:
You can play movies, songs, and pictures you already have on your iPod. That is, movies you have bought or rented. However. You can not use this product to view Hulu Plus OR Netflix video streaming on a bigger screen, which is a way that I increasingly watch video using my iPod. Now, you could buy a composite cable adapter and get the video out of your iPod that way, but you could do that with ANY TV. Apple Composite AV Cable I haven't tried it, but I found that as I was looking for a way around this problem with this product. Interestingly, you can get the streaming audio from netflix or Hulu, but the screen blanks out with a message that the iphone is plugged in so you can't see the video. This reduced the usefulness of this TV significantly, at least for me.

In addition, for wall mounting purposes, I ran into other problems. I was going to mount it on the wall, and then have some equipment underneath the TV. ALL the plugs go straight into the back, that is, they are perpendicular to the TV. Just like most old-school stereo equipment. Most LCD TVs have the plugs go "down" so you can mount the TV to the wall easier. But all the plugs - ipod, VGA, Composite, they ALL stick straight out the back, including the ipod base plug which was the whole reason I bought it. I was going to wall mount this unit in the kitchen but thats more or less "out", there would be a lot of strain on any cables connected. The VGA cable in particular sticks pretty far out. Every cable will have a right angle bend as it touches the wall, which will eventually create a short. This is why most other TVs have downward angled plugs. So its not very good for wall mounting in my opinion.

So I decided that I still liked the iPod/iPhone perk enough to keep it as a computer monitor, and it could charge my iphone and play music as I worked (cool, huh). But as a computer monitor I've had some issues. Some deficiencies I've run across:
    1) The computer monitor setup is mostly manual. You will have to go into the TV settings and "tell" the TV what resolution your computer is running at. The three resolutions available are 1024x768, 1366x768, and 1280x768. Thats fine for geeky me but for someone who expects it to plug and play ... they will be disappointed. It will be especially confusing if your computer is not set to one of those three resolutions, because your screen will look awful and you'll wonder why the monitor doesn't auto-correct (as so many good quality monitors do these days). Setting the horizontal and vertial is also up to you. Then there is a manual setting for the dot clock and the clock phase. I don't know what these are, but I'm hoping that one of them will fix a problem i have where pixels in the middle of the screen are sharp and pixels near the corner are fuzzy. Wish me luck.

    2) The included "stand" makes the TV very "low" on the table. Its MUCH lower than other TVs and LCD monitors I've used. I had to put it on a old monitor stand I was going to throw out (similar to this one: Fellowes Monitor Riser 91712. Otherwise its not ergonomic enough. And the base does not tilt. In short, the included stand is very disappointing. So now I feel its not good for table mounting OR wall mounting.

    3) You have to hit the power button to turn the monitor back on each time your computer sleeps. I'll keep looking for a solution to this but its not a good out-of-the-box default.

    4) You cannot listen to your ipod through the TV while its charging, while working on your PC. When you start the ipod you can control your ipod using the remote control (cool) but once you get some music playing you can't use the TV screen to do stuff for your laptop. The screen remains permanently in use as a large ipod controller. Now, I know that I could just run itunes or pandora on my laptop and hear music through the TV, but my point is that the ways you can use your ipod with this tv are really, really limited.

Here is another little annoyance: When I am using this screen as a TV or a computer monitor, and I plug in my iPhone the screen goes black and it goes to iPhone control. I had to pick up the remote and hit "exit" to get back to typing this review. So, whether you are watching TV, or using your PC, and you want to just plug in your iphone and charge it you will cut your TV program or your laptop out. I understand WHY this happens. Its because the TV can't know when you just want to charge and when you want to listen to music. It would have been "handy" to have a button on the included charge base that said "exit" just like on the remote. You could then plug in your phone and hit the exit button and only have a momentary black flash.

Overall I think the TV is "fine". By adding an iPod dock they have made it much more complicated. I'm sure a future version of this product will be 5 star excellence. But for now the little complications have created too much trouble for the designers of this product, which results in a lot of inconsistencies for the end user.

My top three complaints for this item:
    1) iphone/ipod usage is limited to a few basic functions that can only be performed in a few very basic ways.
    2) screen sharpness seems to vary, sharp in the middle and fuzzy in the corners. This is not noticable when you are watching TV but when you've got a screen full of text (like when I'm writing this review with it as my monitor) then its really obvious. I'm trying to fix this by twiddling with settings.
    3) I think the base is insufficient and the sockets on the back are not set up correctly for wall mounting.

I don't think its a complete waste, I just expected it to work better.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great TV but the audio got shortcutted, November 26, 2010
I bought this model for our guest bedroom, and it works great, picture rivals Sony for sure but the audio is waaaay diminished. I'[ve read all the instructions and as per the other reviews, I agree -- it's weak audio!

2-0 out of 5 stars I should return it because of the sound, December 10, 2010
Somehow I hate to return this (Panasonic TC-L22X2), because the current price (emailed to me as a special sometime around Black Friday, but the same a couple of weeks later) was such a reduction. The picture is great, and it's just the right size for our kitchen. I did not heed some of the reviews about the soft sound -- it's very nice, surround-type sound, but the highest volume is what, on any other set, would be medium-low. I contacted Panasonic, which had no suggestions other than maximizing the bass & treble, which I'd already done. This would still be tolerable if one could easily connect audio output to a little amplifier -- but the only audio output is a digital, "toslink" type, so it requires either a quite expensive new receiver (looks like they cost more than the TV -- and for the kitchen?) or the right kind of digital-to-analog converter + 2 cables, into an amplifier -- I've spent hours searching for one (no, Panasonic doesn't even have a specific suggestion, never mind providing one to compensate for this acoustically handicapped TV) and the only one in which I have confidence based on reading about it (and not being a total tech geek) is the "Digital Audio to Analog Audio Converter" by Gefen, which, as of last night, was marked down from $80 to $58 -- but still adds significantly to what you're spending for this TV. You should only buy this if you will be watching in a small, very quiet room, in which no one else is talking, there are no humming motors (as in a fridge), or of course if you already have a digital stereo or surround sound system that takes a toslink input (but in that kind of room you'd probably want more than a 22 inch screen). Yeah, I really should return it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Performer, July 4, 2010
Mention LCD TVs and most consumers are not very likely to think of the Panasonic brand. You'll here the usual casual mention of household brands like Sony, Samsung and occasionally Sharp. This is a shame. Maybe even a sin. Although I'll be the first to admit that these household brands are capable of producing good products, the bulk of their current products are actually very average performers yet they sell like hotcakes due to effective marketing and consumers buying out of brand loyalty.

A year-and-a-half ago I purchased a Samsung LN22A650 22-inch HDTV for my wife and gave that unit a good review. Like virtually all LCDs even now, including the widely touted Sony and Samsung sets that claim 178 degree viewing angle capability, that set suffered from color, tint and contrast shifts every time you view the picture away from the dead center seating position. And I haven't even covered the details of screen uniformity problems or even black level. Make no mistake, no LCD or even LED-backlit LCD will ever rival any plasma in these respects.

So I was shocked to find the new Panasonic TC-L22X2 22-inch perform so well. Like some Sony and Samsung models, this one claims a useful viewing angle of 178 degrees. And like those models, this one does suffer from shifts in contrast. Unlike the other brands, though, contrast doesn't drop anywhere near as drastically. Also, black levels stay quite dark across a 15 degree horizontal viewing angle. Beyond that, reflections off the screen take over despite the fact that the screen consists of a matte finish. Vertical viewing angles like the other brands are only good when viewed from dead center.

But I find the basic black level very impressive for an LCD set. It easily rivals the black levels of any of the LED-backlit LCDs I've seen and even approaches the black levels of Panasonic's own plasma models, including the G10 I have. This is no small achievement for any LCD TV. The Samsung LN22A650 I bought a year-and-a-half ago has inferior black level (much brighter).

The other edge the TC-L22X2 has over the same size LN22A650 is that the internal backlighting is far less visible and I think this definitely contributes to the deeper blacks.

On top of all this the overall picture is a lot crisper and detailed even with the sharpness control turned almost all the way down. If you want to see blades of grass in a landscape picture, this is an LCD to marvel at. Of course, it's a 22-inch set so you'd naturally sit quite close to it. I use it as a computer monitor.

In a nutshell, if the picture of this Panasonic 22-inch LCD model is similar to the brand's larger screen LCD models, then Panasonic not only makes class-leading plasmas but cutting-edge LCDs as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars TV Fit for a Bedroom, December 9, 2010
I purchased this TV for our bedroom to clear away an old TV we have. I read prior reviews that the sound quality would not be good. Already owning several Panasonic TVs over the past 17 years, I trusted that this should be a good TV. It has not let me down. The sound quality is good for a 22 inch TV. The picture quality is great and the colors are rich and vibrant. I am very pleased with the TV so far and would recommend it to my friends. I purchased this on sale on Amazon and really feel I got a great deal and a great TV for the price I paid. The TV fit a standard tilting wall mount without any extra hardware. This has been a great purchase for my bedroom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture, Terrible Sound, December 5, 2010
Very crisp and clear video. I have this in my (small) living room and it is the perfect size. I bought it along with a Panasonic Blu-Ray/DVD player and the hookup was very simple. Only complaint is the sound - it really is as bad as others have said. I have mine running through a 16-year-old Panasonic sound system with the old-fashioned red and white audio cables. Definitely not state of the art, but sound is vastly improved over the awful built-in speakers. For the price and features, there is nothing better that I could find, so just be sure you use an external device for sound and you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time for an upgrade!, March 24, 2010
I have literally been following the prices of HDTV's for about a year now, and there is no better time for an upgrade! Samsung just released their new "C" series, and somehow they are remarkably less expensive than their pre-existing models! The majority of the websites are selling this HDTV for $800+, Amazon's lower-than-low price is less than the rest of the market. I purchased it here on Amazon, and received my HDTV in 5 days (could have been 4 days, but I had school all day). CEVA did the shipping for my HDTV, which I was wary at first because I have only dealt with UPS and Fedex. However, CEVA provided excellent customer service as they did contact me and I verbally specified a delivery time. Packaging was very efficient, and surprisingly light too!

For those who prefer using TV stands, you do have to assemble it on your own. Extremely easy to assemble though! All it took was 9 screws (already in the box) and I recommend using a power-screwdriver. Directions said it required two people, I did it solo! I was just eager to hook up my PS3 via HDMI cable and experience the wonderful world of 1080P.

Okay, now for the specifics and why this HDTV deserves a spot in your living room - As I mentioned before, right up to my purchase I extensively followed the quality and price of several HDTVs. The Samsungs 530, 550, 630, 650. The Samsung 630 is the best deal for your money, here's why: The 5 series is less expensive, but only offers refresh times of 60Hz as compared to the 630 which is 120Hz. This is a big difference, and means that your HDTV with 120Hz displays at least twice as many frames-per-second which makes movies, not only sports, very fluid and more realistic. Another difference is the response time, where as the 5 series has a 6ms response time, the 6 series has a 4ms response time. And if you are a gamer, a difference of 2ms can make a big difference. So why the Samsung 630 and not the 650? The only difference now is the contrast ratio. The 630 comes with a 80,000:1 contrast ratio which in my opinion, still creates an extraordinary depth to the display. TV contrast ratio's are starting to become stable around the 70,000 - 100,000 range (or much higher for LEDs). Whereas, 3 years ago the highest was around 10,000 but kept constantly rising. So this HDTV is very much future proof. Yes, the 650 has a higher contrast ratio, but is it worth the extra $200 something dollars?

All in all, if you're not worried about price, go all out and purchase a LED HDTV. But if you want to shop smart, this HDTV is the way to go.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, April 23, 2010
I did a lot of research for TV's in this price range. I've bought a few plasmas and LCD's previously, and this TV blows them all away. This is a great price point, size and brand name TV. You can't go wrong really, you will most certainly be satisfied. The 120hz setting on Clear works best, otherwise gives your TV content a weird soap opera look, so either set it to Clear or turn it off. This LCD works great with a PS3 also, and supports 1080p/24hz resolution, so when you watch blurays, the picture is crystal clear. If you experience any input lag when playing games (delay from button press to action on screen), try setting the source name of your PS3 to PC, it seems to fix that issue pretty well.
The sound on this TV is very robust and clear, although when watching blurays I have to turn it up to hear dialogs, which then makes action sequences really loud, but it's not a big deal.
The design of this TV is just awesome. It has the glass bezel and gloss table top, definitely one of the best looking TV's that I've ever seen. The stand also swivels, which is something every TV should have, but usually don't.
The remote works well, and is very sturdy. The onscreen menus are very clear and even provide descriptions to most of the settings so you don't need to try and figure out what certain settings do.
Its a pretty thin and light panel too, so if your mounting it, it should stay pretty flat on the wall.
I've got nothing but positives to say about this set, its worth every penny, and I'm usually very critical about electronics, but I'd recommend this LCD to anyone. It doesn't look that great out of the box, but after a week of playing with the color settings, I think the picture has been perfected.

    UPDATE
Here are my picture settings for anyone that needs a little help getting started
    Mode: Standard
    Backlight: 14
    Contrast: 80
    Brightness: 40
    Sharpness: 20
    Color: 51
    Tint: G48/R52
    Eco Solution: all off
    Edge Enhancement: off
Digital Noise Filter: Low (though I'm sure auto is about the same)
    MPEG Noise: Low
Color Tone: Normal (some people seem to like the Warm settings)
Auto Motion Plus 120HZ: Clear (though some people might like this more OFF)

If you have any adjustments to these, let me know

2-0 out of 5 stars Pray that it doesn't break......, July 26, 2010
Up until two weeks ago, I loved this TV. I upgraded from a 32 inch non-HD/non-flat screen TV. The picture quality is wonderful, the sound was really good, but I hooked it up to a Yamaha receiver anyway.

Here's what happened. A little over two weeks ago we had been watching the TV, and then left to go outside to do some yard work. After dinner we decided to watch a movie so I turned on the TV. Nothing. Usually when a Samsung TV is off, there is a small red light. When you turn it on, the picture emerges and the little red light goes off. No red light. I unplugged the TV from the power supply and plugged it directly into an outlet (the DVD was on the same power strip and was working). Then I took the power cord off and went into the kitchen and plugged it into the little Samsung TV in there. Worked great. Dang. I pulled out the TV information and the TV was still under warranty. I called Samsung.

After just a few seconds on hold a real person answered and I explained the dead power supply problem. She told me somebody would call me in three to five working days to arrange for the repair. WHAT? Three to five days just to talk to somebody to schedule a repair???? NINE days later somebody finally called and said that my 'ticket' would be sent to troubleshooting. WHAT? After nine days, still no appointment for repair???? On day twelve I got a call from a repair guy from a local business contracted to do the repair, and he asked me if the part, the power supply, had come yet. WHAT? What part? I called Samsung again and they gave me the number of GURU, the company they contract to do their repairs, and the company that subcontracts to other local repair services. I now realize that I'm twice-removed from Samsung and NOBODY is coordinating this repair but ME.

I call GURU again after two weeks, and the part has not yet been ordered!!!!! Two weeks after my initial call and the part isn't ordered yet???? WHY NOT? Nobody knew why it wasn't ordered by GURU so they immediately blamed Samsung. Now I'm thinking Samsung is stalling until the warranty runs out, which will happen in about two weeks. Why in the world would there have to be so many layers of uncoordinated mayhem to do a simple swap of a power supply? I'm guessing sometime within the next month or two somebody will fix this TV, and I'm guessing it will be about a 15 minute job.

When the TV worked we loved it. The picture quality was great and the sound was pretty good as well. It has nice features that were pretty easy to figure out and setup. However, would I buy another one? Probably not.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Samsung LN40C630, Definitely worth it!, March 19, 2010
For being my first HDTV, I am more than happy with my purchase. I was debating for months to get the LN40B630, but the price didn't come back down to below $800. Searching Amazon, I saw this year's model for less than last year's model, so I decided it was time to get one. I'm more than impressed by what this TV can do: already I have hooked my PS3 and DVD player up to it. The visuals are absoulutley outstanding -- I feel like I'm actually there. Reading reviews from last year's model, I saw negative comments about sound quality; this year's model, in my opinion, exceeds expectations.

Amazon had this delivered to me in under a week with super saver shipping -- I couldn't ask for better. Out of the box the stand was easy to install: just slip the TV over the guide stand, screw in, and you're good to go. Setup up was easy; the only thing I have an issue with so far is that you can't go directly to a different source/input unless the TV is picking up a signal from the device. Starting up other equipment and then having to select the input again is a bit annoying because you miss the start up unless you leave it on that input. Not sure if I've calibrated it right though, at this point, it seems fine and looks fantastic with some of the default settings. The manual isn't very informative in setting most of the options; still being new to HDTV's, I have to look up guides on how to optimize it for different viewing situations.

I can't say for sure if this TV is better than all the rest or how it matches up, but side to side at electronic stores it had the best picture in mine and my spouse's opinions. The Allshare feature is also a nice addition: I am able to stream files from my network devices on to the TV with only having to run an ethernet cord to the router. In conclusion, I beleive this TV will be more then enough for at least the next 3 years until I consider an upgrade, and I mean a BIGGER upgrade ^.^ Thanks Samsung!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding TV for its price range, May 5, 2010
    Picture Quality -

Pros - The picture on the samsung c630 looks very good right out of the box. Watching Avatar on Blu-Ray is simply amazing. Playing PS3 on this TV looks equally amazing and with no noticeable input lag. I haven't had chance to switch to HD cable programming yet so can't comment on that but standard cable still looks pretty good on this 40 inch tv, a solid 8/10. Watching standard DVDs through an upconverting 1080p DVD player also look very good. You can see some graininess if you're within 3 feet or so of the TV but any further than that and the picture looks crisp and clear 9/10. Blu-Rays just look phenomenal, no other words to describe it really. 10/10. This TV has plenty of video adjustments to tinker with make the picture suit your taste. I actually turned the contrast and backlighting down a hair on my set because it was a bit too good. The TV will also save your picture settings for each input device.
Cons - One of the main reasons I went with the c630 model was for the 120hz capability. I wasn't really sure how much better the picture quality was with the 120hz over the older 60hz models so I decided I'd be better off safe than sorry. I can say now that the 120hz feature on the newer model LCDs seems more of a gimmick than anything. Within the first few hours of watching my new tv I turned off the 120hz and set it back to 60. This can be done by changing the Auto Motion Plus setting in video options(settings are standard, smooth, clear, custom and off). The 120hz feature does indeed give the picture a clearer almost 3D like appearance, however the soap opera effect caused by it unfortunately makes watching movies very distracting. You feel more like you're watching a live stage show than a film. It's good for watching sports and some other live broadcasts and events but bad for pretty much everything else. Another comment i have about this tv is with the viewing angles. While the picture remains clear even at the widest angles, the colors get a little washed out when viewing from the sides...although not to a huge degree. Overall the picture looks great from all angles but you will probably notice a slight difference in color saturation depending where you're viewing from. Color Reproduction overall on this tv is very good. Colors are accurate, whites look white, blacks look black. If I had to pick a weakpoint however it would be with the grayscale. Some grays may appear fuzzy or grainy if you look very closely. This should be unnoticeable however from normal viewing distance.

    Features -

Pros - The Media Play and AllShare features are quite nice. you can plug a flash drive right into your tv and play a variety of video files, mp3s, jpgs with easy to navigate menu's. Playing files from your PC works in the same way. You do have to download a file sharing server app from Samsung (it's called PC Share Manager) for it to work but it's fairly straight forward to set up. You just install the app and choose which files/folders you want the samsung TV to be able to browse on your computer.
Cons - I was unaware of this before purchasing the tv since the product description says you can connect wirelessly to your PC but I have since found out wireless network connection is not built in to this tv. To connect this tv wirelessly to the internet or to your pc, you need a seperate wireless LAN adapter from Samsung which costs about $60 on Amazon. So now I either have to purchase another 25 ft of ethernet cable or cough up 60 bucks for the adapter.
Another problem i have with the Media play feature is it can only handle a limited number of files. I have a 16Gb flash drive with over two thousand mp3s on it but the tv will only read the first 999 of them and the rest cannot be played. Also for playing music or video files there is no shuffle feature. You can sort files a number of ways but Samsung left out a random playback ability.

    Sound -

Pros - Sound on the Samsung c630 is decent although not spectacular. It's about what I would expect from built in speakers which there is little room for in many of these newer and thinner LCDs. I haven't seen an LCD tv yet that had amazing sound quality right out of the box. There are plenty of Surround Sound presets and an equalizer to fine tune the audio to your liking.
Cons - To get the true movie theater experience with this tv, unfortunately you'll have to hook it up to an external home theater system. Built in speakers are adequate but certainly don't raise the bar for LCDs. I purchased the Phillips DVD home theater HTS3371D.F7 along with the TV and it sounds spectacular for only $160 extra.

    Overall -

For the $800 range the Samsung C630 seems to offer the best picture along with the most features and 120hz capabilities compared to other sets in the same price range. The internet capabilities and media player of the C630 are very handy and this set has easy to navigate menus with plenty of audio/visual settings to tweak. The casing of the TV also looks very sleek and stylish. The 120hz in my opinion seems like a limited use feature and may not be worth the cost over a 60hz set if you're not also looking to get the additional features many of the newer LCDs have as well. Although that and most of the other negative comments I had aren't even knocks on this TV set in particular but issues with LCDs in general. The only true complaint I have with the Samsung C630 is that it requires a seperate adapter to connect wirelessly to the internet which is not what the product description would have you believe. Some of the features I might be nitpicking about aren't even offered on other tvs in this price range. Overall, unless you're willing to invest a couple hundred more to make the jump to the new LED backlit LCDs, this is one of the highest quality TVs you'll find for the price.

    Other notes -

The C630's Energy Saving features allow it to automatically adjust screen brightness to fit room lighting. Although it's not as energy efficient as the newer LED tv's, the C630 doesn't seem to be generating too much heat.

The box that the Samsung LN40C630 came in was about half the size as the box the for an LG 37" LCD I had bought my parents the year before. Not much packing in the box besides styrofoam holders on the top and bottom end of the tv.

Recieved the TV one day prior to estimated delivery with the free super saver shipping. Was shipped via Pilot Freight and then transferred to another regional freight service which did not show up in tracking information. I only found out by calling Pilot to try and schedule a delivery time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV, great price!, June 2, 2010
"I'm an everyday user, i.e. NOT a technophile. I did some research before buying, but at the end of the day, I wanted something I could enjoy without spending a fortune, and I'm happy with what we got. Some tips on buying your TV, whether this one or another:
    1) 120 Hz refresh rate -- great for future-proofing, but realize that your cable box may not yet transmit in anything faster than 60 Hz. I don't know if this is different for satellite or antenna transmissions. Also, make sure you buy an appropriate HDMI cable that supports 120 Hz...this should be listed on the package. (Although it may not be needed now, it will be when the cable boxes update again.)
    2) 1080p -- crystal-clear picture when watching 720p or 1080i programming (nothing on cable is shot in 1080p yet) or 1080p Blu-Ray video. The picture is almost kind of eerie at first, sort of like a soap opera-type appearance, which can be unusual if you're not used to it. I adjusted to it quickly, but it took my wife some time. In the store, ask them to show you something on the airwaves in full HD, or have them run a standard DVD if you think you'll be watching that some via your Blu-Ray player. It is definitely an adjustment.
    3) Sound -- always a knock on TVs, though for my purposes, it's fine (it's in our living room, not our media room). I really like the "night" option for the sound; it keeps the sounds from ebbing-and-flowing as dramatically, i.e. from conversation to a car chase, which is nice when you have kids in bed.
    4) Computer connectivity -- I have a laptop with HDMI output, so we have connected that the TV and watched something streaming from websites. You can pay extra for "internet connectivity" applications like Netflix, Blockbuster, etc., though since we already had that with our Blu-Ray, we didn't duplicate with the TV. The easy computer connectivity is a nice feature."

5-0 out of 5 stars Jaw dropping picture!!!!, April 18, 2010
I went to Brandsmart, and I was expecting to buy a Sony BRAVIA EX 400 Series 40-Inch LCD TV, Black. The associate told me though it was a 1080p LCD, it was 60hz LCD. Therefore, it would not show as good as an LCD with 120hz. Then, I was looking at the LG 37LH30 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black. It was very reasonable. However, it was a little out-dated. I was then looking at the Samsung. The associate told me it was the top of the line. Of course, I know Samsung is a great brand, though I bought the LG 37LG30 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV last year because it was cheaper. When I bought that LCD, I knew it would not show as good, but it has been good enough.

While making a decision, I found that pixels AND the hertz DOES have an affect on how good an LCD resolution can be. The associate told me the difference between a 60hz and a 120hz LCD is an 120hz shows more of a live picture. This means, there is no blurriness on moving objects, and everything moves increasingly fast, as if in real time. I decided to purchase the Samsung. When I hooked this LCD up, I noticed how sharp the moving objects were. It was unbelievable. All I could say was, "wow"! The subjects, and the movements are almost 3-D like. That is the best description, which I can give. While watching some movies, it actually felt as if I was on a live set. I no longer felt as if I was watching actual TV. This is thanks to the 120hz. The picture is one of the most amazing features I have ever seen on a TV, albeit the HD features. Right out of the box, it showed great. I had to make no adjustments. I also noticed how the LCD is user-friendly. Though I am pretty good with gadgets, I don't know what every feature means. At least, every feature has an explanation of what it is at the bottom of the screen. The sound it pretty good, as well. I could not say the same for the LG.

For those, who have a PS3 or Xbox 360, the featured Game Mode takes HD gameplay to a whole new level. The graphics, sharpness, sound and movements are enhanced by the 120hz LCD. I highly recommend playing a 1st person shooter, such as Modern Warfare 2. I was playing a Team Deathmatch, and the sound was superb. While playing, I could clearly hear every footstep, which my team, nearby enemies, and I were making. The gunshots sounded increasingly crisp and authentic. The gameplay experience has a lot more to offer on this LCD than playing on my LG. Also, be sure to switch the Game Mode off, prior to watching regular TV!!! If not, the screen will shake lightly per user manual.

Also, if you buy the LCD, it will seem as if it does not swivel. However, the LCD actually does. Prior to placing the LCD to the base, look at the base bottom. You will see some screws underneath. Take all, but one of the screws out. This keeps the swivel stand in place. You should now be able to spin the swivel stand. Then, put the same screws back into the base. The LCD will then be able to swivel. Overall, the Samsung is great. It is worth the price. I did not feel bad about spending a little over seven "big ones". This is coming from someone, who is frugal, and tight with money. If you are looking for a top-notch LCD TV, look no further than the Samsung LN40C630 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black).

    5-0 out of 5 stars Samsung LN40C630 -- Worth the wait!, March 26, 2010
I researched my first purchase of an HDTV extensively over the last 4-6 weeks. After a couple of disappointing experiences related to models and brands other than this one (one TV I ordered never arrived, one came defective and had to be returned), I discovered the Samsung LN40C630, which was recently released by Samsung. It is an amazing TV and it almost made the problems with the other TVs I previously ordered worth the pain. This TV was easy to set up, has nice sound, beautiful picture, and user-friendly menu options. It also looks really nice in my home. I was not a big fan of the red trim (Touch of Color) on some of the other Samsungs, so was pleased to see a model that had nice, less gimmicky esthetic details. I LOVE THIS TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensational tv, May 19, 2010

    Pro
Totally easy set up, just plug it in, attach an HDMI to it and then to your cable box and it's on. Immediately a stunning picture, great clarity and beautiful deep colors. It has a matte screen to cut down on reflection. Very nice remote too with big buttons.

We purchased this tv for the bedroom after buying the Samsung LN52B750 for our living room and loving it. This one does not have all the bells and whistles (widgets and DNLA) that the B750 has but has 2 USB movie inputs which I wanted because I download a lot of movies and tv broadcasts from Europe. I have not yet found a codec that these tvs will not play. We paid $809 with free shipping and no tax thru Amazon. I consider it a great buy.

    HOWEVER.......
We had it installed on the wall at a horrendous price - articulating wall mount $92, installing the wall mount to the wall which had to be reinforced because no studs could be found $346, parts to finish off the reinforcement of the wall with moldings, wiremold to cover the wires and a shelf to hold the bd player and cable box, $99, + $100 labor = $637!!!!!!!!! OMG unless you can do it yourself, think twice about wall mounting your tv!!!

If you are installing this tv on the wall, think too about how you will get to the inputs which are mostly located in the back of the tv, ie home theater, audio and components, as well as extra HDMIs. You will need to access these inputs from time to time so make sure you have the room to move the tv out and turn it to reach these inputs. That is why we bought an articulating mount. Still we have to move some furniture out of the way to get at the back of the tv. Hopefully we will not need to do this often.

    Con

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth It, April 4, 2010
First of all, this TV is beautiful, even before turning it on, you can see this is a great design with a clean, contemporary style that compares to what the ipod did for the mp3 player. The stand is also great, with a nice swivel and sleek look. While some may say the aesthetics of a tv don't matter much, it

The picture is impressive with 1080i television and 1080p movies/xbox. I'm sure it can be better, but you will never notice unless you have a (...) tv in the next room. The sound quality isn't bad at all in my opinion, although it isn't very impressive either.

A cool feature is the easy use of an external HDD. All you have to do is connect an external drive into the usb port and you are able to play your favorite movies/media, which surprisingly works with all of my video file-types including avi and mkv(in 1080p). There's no need to connect to a network/pc as long as you have a usb device that can hold enough of your media.

At (...), this was an absolutely great buy! Samsung is a brand you can trust when it comes to TV's, at least as much as you can trust any large corporation.

I would give it the 5 stars, but the few cons that it has make it a "great" tv, not perfect.

    Cons:

-no "internet apps" for this model, (as far as I can tell). I was assuming that the apps would be standard, considering how new this model is, but samsung makes no attempt to let the consumer know about it's internet limitations, maybe that's why it's so cheap.

-you need to buy a wireless adapter to get a wireless connection, which is just another way for samsung to get an extra (...) from you. Also, right now I don't really see the point of connecting to the internet, seeing as how there arn't any apps like netflix, pandora, or whatever else.

-remote isn't great, although most people can just use their cable remote anyways

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value set: + picture quality; - design - features, May 15, 2010
After comparison shopping for a LCD set to replace my current Sharp Aquos LC20D42U (also reviewed), I settled on this TV.

I'm not going to write a book - but the following are my initial impressions.

Given that my outgoing Sharp display had only 1 HDMI input, the LG's 2 inputs are acceptable for my needs (HD cable/DVR & PS3) but for others with more peripherals (stand alone Blu-Ray, DVD, multiple gaming consoles, etc), 2 HDMI inputs may not be enough. The set also has a component input (probably acceptable for use w/ a non-upscaling DVD player).

Unboxing the TV in my living room, I cranked all my lights to check for blemishes / defects. While the TV was in good condition, both the screen and the glossy black bezel had hand/finger prints in multiple locations. I'm not sure if this happened at the factory (made in Mexico) or if I got a unit that had been previously unboxed (manuals, remote, stand were all still in sealed plastic - so I'm guessing factory), but it was a little unsettling, even at this price point. It took me a few extra minutes to wet a cloth and clean the TV before setting it up.

The glossy black bezel is unremarkable - it doesn't look bad, but it does look (and feel) a little cheap. This is not a TV I would mount or place conspicuously - especially among high quality peripherals, audio equipment or as the anchor of an expensive entertainment center (of course it's doubtful that a 32" TV would typically form the center of an expensive piece of furniture like that).

After setting the TV up, I obviously turned it on. I was not immediately impressed. Like most new TV's, this one is pre-programmed to default to wild backlight / brightness / color settings (with the aim of display sets not washing out under bright store lights, I presume). After spending some time tuning the picture, I was able to achieve settings that were to my liking. The tuned picture is fairly impressive at this price point - solid processing, even backlighting, good black levels for a CCFL-backlit TV, and fairly accurate color although off-angle viewing could be better. Speaking of tuning, the menu / interface is very simple and very easy to use - both because of good menu design and also because there are not a whole lot of features on this set to be configured.

Which brings me to features - this is not among the next generation of LCD TV's; it has no LED backlight, it is not 120hz, it is not thinner than a strand of hair, it does not connect wirelessly or offer widgets or video streaming, and it is not 3D compatible (a feature I sincerely hope does not catch on for cinema or television - who wants to wear 3D glasses all evening?).

But if you don't want to spend a lot, don't need the TV to be a conversation piece while it is turned off, don't need to the TV to perform functions that your other devices would likely make redundant, and are looking primarily for decent quality picture and good value - then I'd recommend this TV to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tv for the price, June 22, 2010
I have had this TV for about 2 months and really am enjoying it. It has a great picture and color clarity. Works well with DVD, VHS, blu-ray/ PS3, wii, and a computer hooked up. I have all of this hooked up constantly and there were plenty of different types of ports to make it all work. The only negative is the menu system. For some things you have to go through 3 or 4 screens to get to the setting that you want. Not a huge deal, but it could be better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV!, September 20, 2010
This is my first flat panel TV, and I shopped around alot before I purchased this set. It came promptly, was very well packed for shipment, and came out of the box in pristine condition. I mounted it in the bedroom, on the Cheetah brand wall mount, and used the screws supplied with the set that would normally have been used for the table mount. They fit the wall mount holes as well, which made it nice. The only problem there is that the wall mount bracket blocks one of the HDMI jacks.

The set works fine, and the picture quality is excellent, especially on Blue Ray DVD's. I don't have my HD satellite service hooked up yet, but I am very happy with the set, and I'm sure that my satellite HD reception will be as nice as the Blue Ray DVD's.

All in all, a very positive ordering experience, and a very good TV.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Colors but Bad Motion Blur, October 8, 2010
Ordered the TV and it arrived quickly, great service from Amazon. Hooked it up to get over the air programming and to my PC via HDMI - exceptional, but not perfect, picture. Colors were good after calibrating, got 1:1 pixel mapping, and viewing angle on this was pretty good. Black levels were alright, not great but not bad enough to break the deal. But what bothered me the most was when I started watching movies and TV shows. I noticed blurring/motion lag with the picture with both HDMI and the built-in tuner. I've owned other HDTVs and this was the only TV I've noticed this on. The picture blew me away at first but after seeing the motion blur I knew down the road I wouldn't be happy with it. Sent it back because I'd rather do that than to sell it a year from now to "upgrade" my TV. BTW you can turn off the ON/OFF indicator light at the corner of the TV by going into the menu if you find it distracting.

    Pros
    + Great Colors
    + Good Viewing Angles
+ Works great ac a PC monitor

    Cons
    - Terrible Motion Blur
    - Mediocre Blacks

At the end of the day you get what you pay for. It's not a terrible TV but this motion blur problem doesn't exist on other 60hz LCDs. Sadly I wouldn't recommend this TV to a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV with good price, November 3, 2010
I have bought this TV two months ago, and been very pleased with the purchase since.

UPS guy delivered just box (no extra packaging) got me little surprised, but other than that performance/price/features are as good as it gets. You may want other fancy parts of new TV technology but I'm just fine with everything I do with TV, watching sports, movies, and computer.

It has very crisp and convenient remote menu (very responsive as well). I could've gone 720 res, but it is obvious now that 1080 is better choice. I had some doubts on buying reasonably priced electronics (because things get changed around so quick nowadays and you ended up getting obsolete technology at low price). So, if you're thinking the same, this one is a good buy for you.

I definitely recommend this product, and am thinking of buying another one, its bigger 42" brother for the living room. I usually do not write reviews on products but I have to for this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars great quality, September 28, 2010
Before buying this we saw some ratings about the mediocracy of this tv, thus we had our doubts but the price and the trust in the brand convinced us. Thank goodness for our trust in LG the item is all you can expect from 1080p tv. the colors are balanced the software is easy to use. sound is clear but don't expect a buffer quality or such. really deserves every penny you spend for it. highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average TV, September 15, 2010
I bought this tv from another store and I must say you get what you pay for. I had direct tv SD and it actually looked better then the Samsung ln32c450 it replaced but thats about it. Sound is actually pretty good on this tv and the picture has a million and one ways to be adjusted. But in all honesty, I thought that the samsung was a better TV in terms of picture and quality. This tv feels cheap and also, I don't know if I have really good hearing but I couldn't sleep for the 2 days that I had this TV becuase it sounded like it was on even though it was not. The remote feels cheap, and sometimes the picture get like blurs when theres a fast movement in tv. I'm going back to Samsung ln32c450. Even though is 720P, produces better picture then this 1080.

    4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 2, 2010
I selected this TV after having bought and returned a similarly priced and featured Sony. I am far happier with my new LG.

The picture is crisp and bright. The audio is decent enough for an LCD TV. And the feature set is fair for the price. While I'm sure it is not equal to a professional calibration, the feature allowing you to adjust the image settings for better viewing is easy to navigate and produces a better-than-decent picture.

It is true that the viewing angle falls a bit short of fantastic, so if you plan on this tv living high on a shelf or anticipate needing to see the image from a harsh angle this wouldn't be your best choice. That being said, I have it placed on a medium-high shelf in my bedroom and don't have a problem.

Delivery: Be advised that this product ships in its full color LG box with a product image on it. I was not home and Fed Ex left the box outside my door. Fortunately a concerned neighbor stored the box for me until I returned. In my opinion leaving an HDTV in a marked box unattended outside might be a theft risk. Try to be around when your delivery is scheduled.

Bottom line: I love my new TV.

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying buzzing sound, October 24, 2010
I got this TV for 3 days so far and I noticed that there is a loud buzzing sound coming from the display, which is not part of the show I was watching at all. I love the other features that this TV has, but IT IS GOING BACK. The buzzing sound from the unit is too annoying for me. ... Read more
