5-0 out of 5 stars Continuing the "Dream", January 16, 2001
Nora Roberts continues what she started in "Daring to Dream" in this wonderful second book of the trilogy.

Kate Powell, cousin to the Templeton children who was raised as one of their own after the death of her own parents when she was a child, has spent her whole life trying to be the best at everything she does so that she can "pay them back" for their generosity. Close to her goal of becoming partner in an accounting firm, her world is rocked by not one but two revelations -- the first, that her father had a cloud of scandal hanging over him at the time of his death, and the second, that she suddenly finds herself facing a similar scandal. In addition stress and worry make her ill, and she is forced to re-evaluate her life and her goals.

Kate is a wonderful heroine. She's strong, independent, smart, and far easier to relate to than the glamorous Margo of the first book. Her independent streak and desire to stand on her own take some getting used to for Byron De Witt, a southern gentleman through and through who is surprised to find himself falling in love with a woman so completely not his "type".

As wonderful as it is to watch Kate's relationship with Byron develop, the best part of this book (like the first) is the relationship between Kate, Margo, and Laura -- three women who grew up as sisters and whose bond is stronger than blood.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST OF THE TRIOLOGY - A MUST READ!!, January 26, 1999
This is the best of the triology. Kate is truely an over achiever, and got exactly what over achievers get - sick with an ulcer! Her life is working for her, she is an accountant and working her way up the corporate ladder. Just when she thinks she has climbed the last rung, the ladder comes crashing down around her. After getting sick, facing federal criminal charges, and being forced to work full time in the shop her and her sisters started up, does she find her dream and she holds on tight to it at the end, and not only becomes happy and content in her business world, but of course in her love life also! This is truely the best of the triology, but you have to read them in order to truely appreciate the sisters and the family they came from.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book Seems to be in a Holding Pattern for Roberts, May 3, 2005
HOLDING THE DREAM is the second book in the Dream trilogy by Nora Roberts, which is about the lives of three women who grew up together and focuses on their lives as adults. The glimpse back at their childhood and teen years is accomplished with flashbacks, and is done with expertise so the story is smooth and not jerky as many flashbacks can sometimes appear.

HOLDING THE DREAM focuses on Kate Powell who was raised by the Templetons from the time she was a small child when her family was killed. Even though she was a cousin to Laura Templeton, she was raised as her sister, never any difference being shown between the girls.

Kate doesn't have the attractiveness of Margo or Laura's sophistication, but she has always been the top in her class academically and has excellent in all aspects of the business world. She has received promotion after promotion in a large accounting firm, but is set up by a shrewd co-worker and her world comes crashing down around her. With the help of her life long friends, Kate refocuses her efforts into the business the three of them have set up and realizes that something is missing from her life. Since this is a pure romance novel, you can guess that the "something missing" is love.

That last line isn't meant to be cynical because Nora Roberts pulls off an excellent story with vibrant characters and the beautiful background of Big Sur, California. At times I felt like I could actually hear those waves crashing on the cliffs! As typical, her story is great, but I felt it was a little flat and not up to her usual standard of greatness. She only grazes a couple of minor details brought out in the book and left me wanting to explore those elements. For example, I wanted to learn about more on the Templetons. This couple not only raised their daughter and son but saw to it that their extended family's child and their maid's child were given many of the same opportunities as their own children. This must truly be an exceptional couple, but we aren't allowed to know that fact because we are only given glimpses of them.

All in all, this is a good book, not one of her best, but far superior to many writers currently on the market. A safe bet for a few enjoyable hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dream trilogy continues to Impress., December 5, 2001
"Holding the Dream" is book #2 in Nora Roberts' "Dream" trilogy, and if it's possible I think this book is even better than the first.
Kate Powell, Laura Templeton's cousin, was orphaned as a child and has been raised by the Templetons as one of their own. Now, as an adult, Kate is an obsessive over-achiever, determined to succeed in business to "pay back" the Templetons for their generosity towards her. Just as everything is looking up and she believes she's about to get promoted to partner, Kate's life falls apart. She gets ill with a stomach ulcer, discovers that her father died during the middle of a messy scandal, and suddenly finds herself caught in a scandal of her own. Someone has set Kate up to make it look like she's been stealing from her company, and Kate must prove her innocence.
Kate isn't alone in this, however, as Southern gentleman Byron DeWitt has come into her life and is quite taken with this determined woman. Byron's support and faith in Kate help her get through these tough times. Laura and Margo, Kate's two best friends, show her unwavering loyalty, and the friendship these three share is the foundation of this entire trilogy. Kate's romance with Byron is exciting and realistic.
Kate is a wonderfully strong and independent heroine, and the tale Nora Roberts weaves is completely absorbing. I enjoyed Kate's story immensely and I know you will too, so read this book today!

5-0 out of 5 stars love this book, August 22, 2001
This is the book that introduced me to Nora Roberts, and I've been a big fan ever since. This is the second in the Dream series (and I recommend all of the titles -- it's my favorite series to date) and it's my favorite of the Dream series. Whenever Nora Roberts makes a series, the formula is typically one sibling who is very cautious, who has been hurt before, one sibling who is on the wild side with a voracious sexual appetite, and one is sensible and a tad shy. This one is about the sibling who is very cautious; smart in business, not so daft with her emotions. It's this sibling who I always like best.

In sum, read the series. But start with Margo ("Daring to Dream") so you don't go out of order.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE everything by Nora Roberts - GREAT bathtub book., September 5, 2001
This series of three books about three sisters was the first set of Nora Roberts books I ever read. I fell instantly in love with the characters, the setting and the story line. I was sad to see the end of this book and immediately began looking for more Nora Roberts books.

If you enjoy reading books about women who overcome their self doubts and many obstacles to become successful in their own way and content with their life, this book (and the others in the trilogy)is one you should read. It is also a romance novel full of the realistic ups and downs that many relationships suffer.

Nora reminds us success is not always monetary, that it is important to have love and many obstacles can be overcome.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful portion of a romantic trilogy by Roberts, June 3, 1997
Nora Roberts has won me over with her ability to romance her readers. Her characters become become part of your reading life, full of struggles and sucesses. Her trilogies grip you so that you the reader anxiously jump forward to the next saga. This trilogy regarding the lives of three beauiful women is complete entertainment. I highly recommend the reader starts with "Daring to Dream" , book one of the trilogy, then goes on to "Holding the Dream" and the concludes with "Finding the Dream" You'll be cheering these heroines on through out the trilogy, feeling their emotions, and the love they cherish between them

5-0 out of 5 stars A reader from Asia, June 13, 2000
This is the first dream trilogy that i've read. But i can't wait to read all of them. i love strong-willed and intelligent heroines. And Kate is the very type of heroine that i've always wanted to encounter in romance novels. She is indepedent, intelligent, and sweet. too independent to pass her own problems to Byron at first. But Byron is so much Southern gentleman that he never turn a blind eye on Kate's troubles. And i like the way that Byron fell in love with Kate who is not stunningly beautiful.

Nothing’s sexier than a man, or five, with power tools.

Sultry summer heat has nothing on the five-man crew renovating the house next door. No one could blame Kate for leaning out the window for a better view of the manscape. The nasty fall that follows isn’t part of her fantasy—but the man who saves her from splattering the sidewalk is definitely the star.

When Mike personally attends to her injuries, she realizes her white knight in a hard hat has a tender side, giving her no choice but to surrender to the lust that’s been arcing between them since day one. In the aftermath of the best sex of her life, she whispers her most secret desire: to be ravaged by his crew.

She never expected Mike would dare her to take what she wants—or that the freedom to make her most decadent desires come true could be the foundation for something lasting…

Warning: This book may cause you to spontaneously combust as five hot guys bring a woman’s wildest fantasies to life during one blazing summer affair.

The #1 New York Times-bestselling author presents a riveting novel where a canine search and rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life-a quaint house on an island off Seattle's coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescues. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare...

Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf serial killer, who shot and killed Fiona's cop fianc and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He's the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon's house, and he's at his wit's end.

To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can't handle. Simon, however, is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he's a rugged and in-tensely private artist, known for the exquisite furniture he creates from wood. Simon never wanted a puppy-and he most definitely doesn't want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to his hormones.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona's life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful start to an interesting series, August 3, 2010
A very enjoyable read. Very likable characters, and an interesting plot.
I really enjoyed Mary's interaction with Stanley and Rosie.
I am interested in seeing what is next for Mary and Bradley.
It had a very satisfying ending, and I can't wait for future installments.
All in all, a great mystery!

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Loose Ends' is Spooky, Funny, and Left Me Wanting More!, August 8, 2010
This Mary O'Reilly Mystery is both scarey and funny, with wonderful characters and lots of action. I was not certain 'who done it' until the very end, and I couldn't put it down until it was all over! AND it ended with a twist, the perfect set up for the next book.

Mary and Bradley are just plain fun together - can't help but laugh out loud - but I found the characters of Rosie and Stanley to be a terrific foil to Mary's dry quips. They are the kind of pals we all wish we had: delightfully honest and totally on your side. Lucky Mary!

Gimme more, Ms. Reid - don't keep us wondering about where 'you-know-who' has been for so long! Alive or...???

Loose Ends is a hit!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good read!, August 15, 2010
I saw a tweet about this book which had a link to an article that was written about the author and how she got her first book published through Amazon and I decided to give the book a try. I am all for giving new authors a try and boy am I glad I did! I really enjoyed this book and the characters in it. I found the flow to be very fluid. And even though it is a paranormal mystery, there's no vampires or werewolf anywhere to be seen... THANK GOODNESS! I am going to put Terri Reid on my authors to watch list. It will be fun to see how she develops Mary and Bradley's relationship; there is obvious more that can be written there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loose Ends left me wanting more!, August 8, 2010
Loose Ends is perfect mystery and a real 'page turner.' The well crafted plot, engaging characters and a unique spin of the paranormal is a refreshing addition to the mystery genre. I can't wait to read more Mary O'Reily stories! I hope this book makes it to print--I would love to add it to my personal library.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great New Find, August 4, 2010
I read Terri Reids' notice on one of the Kindle Community postings and decided to try her book. Boy am I glad I did. It grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. It was fun, exciting and challenging. Her characters were believable and I wanted more. Hopefully, we'll be seeing new adventures for Mary and et.al. soon. Try this mystery, it's different and enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE, August 3, 2010
RARELY DO I FIND A BOOK THAT FLOWS RIGHT FROM THE VERY START. THE BUILDING OF THE CHARACTERS MAKES ME WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING EVEN AFTER I AM FINISHED READING.
KUDOS, CANT WAIT FOR MORE

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a fun read, August 18, 2010
I have to confess that Terri is a dear friend that I've known for too many years for either of us to admit. I didn't really know what to expect. "Loose Ends" was such a fun read and I heard her voice as I read it. She is a wonderful storyteller in person and her talent is very much in evidence here. Fans of the Dresden books will also enjoy her book. I agree with an earlier reviewer that said that this is a great start to an addictive book series. I also see it as a TV show on the Syfy channel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loose Ends = A great beginning, August 27, 2010
I hope this new series is one that regularly treats readers to new installments! Terri Reid skillfully combines mystery, romance, and the paranormal, tying them all together with heartwarming humor, intriguing situations, snappy dialog, and a genuine understanding of small towns and the folks (living and dead) who inhabit them. Mary O'Reilly is a clever, sensible heroine with an unusual gift, and Bradley, the love interest, is awfully easy to love. Finally, the ghostly characters made me wonder if the *author* actually sees (and chats with) dead people. (I particularly loved O'Reilly's interactions with the waspish and very dead gossip columnist.) Loose Ends made me laugh out loud, gave me goosebumps, and touched my heart. What more could I ask for? Book #2, of course!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Characters & story with the right mix of spooky & mystery, August 25, 2010
Got a kindle as a prize to a charity drawing, and had my first read today with this book. It hooked me from the start to the point that I read it until I finished the entire book without doing anything else. Good thing I'm on vacation! Loved all of the characters, Mary, Bradley, Stanley and Rosie.

It had the right mix of humor, mystery mixed with a new spin on the paranormal, and was a great story interweaving two cases into one. The characters reactions to the paranormal, disbelief and fear was perfect. The play on words between Mary and Bradley, and Mary, Stanley and Rosie are fun to read, and I quite often found myself laughing out loud. It made the characters feel real. The author had both humorous and serious interactions with the ghosts Mary sees, making you feel their plight and pain. The author proves you don't need a lot of blood and guts to sell a good story, with interesting turns and twists. Would make a great movie or even better a fun, spooky series. Terri Reid spins a story that captures the reader from the start, leaving you wanting for more. I want to know more of Mary and her first experiences with the paranormal, and Bradley's story and his search. And you know that Stanley and Rosie must have an interesting story too. I can't wait to see what happens with these characters in future books!

Kudos, Terri Reid, for a great read---- sure hope you plan on making this a series and give your readers more!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!, August 18, 2010

Heiress to the red rose of Lancaster, Margaret Beaufort never surrenders her belief that her house is the true ruler of England and that she has a great destiny before her. Her ambitions are disappointed when her sainted cousin Henry VI fails to recognize her as a kindred spirit, and she is even more dismayed when he sinks into madness. Her mother mocks her plans, revealing that Margaret will always be burdened with the reputation of her father, one of the most famously incompetent English commanders in France. But worst of all for Margaret is when she discovers that her mother is sending her to a loveless marriage in remote Wales.

Married to a man twice her age, quickly widowed, and a mother at only fourteen, Margaret is determined to turn her lonely life into a triumph. She sets her heart on putting her son on the throne of England regardless of the cost to herself, to England, and even to the little boy. Disregarding rival heirs and the overwhelming power of the York dynasty, she names him Henry, like the king; sends him into exile; and pledges him in marriage to her enemy Elizabeth of York’s daughter. As the political tides constantly move and shift, Margaret charts her own way through another loveless marriage, treacherous alliances, and secret plots. She feigns loyalty to the usurper Richard III and even carries his wife’s train at her coronation.

Widowed a second time, Margaret marries the ruthless, deceitful Thomas, Lord Stanley, and her fate stands on the knife edge of his will. Gambling her life that he will support her, she then masterminds one of the greatest rebellions of the time—all the while knowing that her son has grown to manhood, recruited an army, and now waits for his opportunity to win the greatest prize.

In a novel of conspiracy, passion, and coldhearted ambition, number one bestselling author Philippa Gregory has brought to life the story of a proud and determined woman who believes that she alone is destined, by her piety and lineage, to shape the course of history. ... Read more

In the unbearable heat of another sultry Washington, D.C., summer, a serial killer is on the loose. Dr. Tess Court, one of the capital’s most successful psychiatrists, wants nothing to do with the case—until the police convince her to lend a hand to the lead investigator, legendary ladies’ man Detective Ben Paris.

Scarred by his family’s history, Ben has even less use for shrinks than Tess has for him—but the forces of animal magnetism and a shared desire to catch the demented criminal known as “The Priest” inexorably erode the walls they’ve built. They’re opposites in so many ways, yet that seems only to fan the flames of attraction for which danger has supplied the spark. To stop a killer who thinks he can absolve sins through murder, Ben will need every ounce of psychological insight Tess can offer him. And she’ll need the help of a lawman willing to stare fear in the face if she’s going to avoid becoming the madman’s next victim.

5-0 out of 5 stars The start of a love affair w/Nora's books!, August 23, 1998
In March of 1997, I asked readers of Nora Roberts & Patricia Cornwell to convince me which author's stories I should try next. I was convinced to try Nora -- with a little nudge from Nora (she posts on boards on AOL). Nora suggested that I pick up a couple of her titles from used bookstores and see if I liked them or not.

My first read was SACRED SINS. Now, a year and a half later, my life has completely changed -- all due to reading this WINNER and meeting Nora & her wonderful, wonderful fans (w/them, we created a website in Nora's honor!).

I digress.

Why should you read SACRED SINS? When I first read it, I could NOT put it down. I wanted to not only read about the developing relationship between Ben & Tess, but I also wanted to find out who was killing these women in Washington, D.C. My initial impression was that it was a good, fast read.

Then, in June, I re-read it. It was even BETTER the second time around. In fact, I put it right up there as my favorite romantic/suspense stories of Nora's -- with DIVINE EVIL, MONTANA SKY, CARNAL INNOCENCE, & her DEATH books.

Why is SACRED SINS such a great read? First, you have a very believable killer. Second, you have real cops in Ben & in Ed (read BRAZEN VIRTUE for Ed's story) -- their rapport is outstanding. Third, you have a very true-to-heart developing relationship between Tess & Ben. Fourth, Tess is extremely convincing as a psychiatrist. Her attempts to reach Joey were so compelling -- I wanted to reach into the book & slap his parents -- this was as real as it gets. Nora wrenched my heart w/it.

This is an excellent story to give to a NON-reader of romances -- who believes that he/she knows what romances are all about. While there is romance in this story, the emphasis is on the suspense -- wondering who the killer really is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Opposites attract., September 21, 2005
At least they do in Sacred Sins.

A serial killer is on the prowl in D.C., and psychiatrist Tess Court has been asked to help with the investigation over the objections of one of the cops on the case, Ben Paris. Their lifestyles are opposites: Ben's a down-to-earth regular guy, while Tess is from a wealthy family. And Ben has a low opinion of psychiatrists since one failed to help his brother.

Despite their differences and the dangers of the case, attraction blossoms and leads to love.

The good:
The relationship between Ben and his partner Ed. Nora writes men with great understanding and affection, and that's true in this case as well.
The dialogue. It flows naturally.
The humor. Even though it's a more serious, suspenseful story, there are little nuggets of humor to lighten the mood.

The bad:
Tess being apparently more concerned for the killer than the victims made me want to smack her upside the head a few times.

The verdict:
A solidly entertaining romantic suspense. For an older book, it holds up very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah!, February 2, 2007
This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for years and I have finally gotten around to reading it. It is, by far, one of the best Nora Roberts books I've ever read. It has everything-suspense, murder and romance and they don't get much better than this. The detective Ben Paris couldn't have been molded any more perfectly and Tess was pretty likeable even given her determination, as a pyschiatrist, to treat the man who ultimately tries to kill her. I loved the relationship between Ed and Ben and the dialogue, again, couldn't have been written any better. This is one of those books that you don't want to start reading unless you have a lot of free time because it's hard to put down. The only complaint I have is that it didn't end with much of a bang. A surprise, but not really a bang. It would have been more exciting, I think, to see Ben lose a little control.

5-0 out of 5 stars The start of something great..., April 9, 2001
I agree with those reviewers who are calling Sacred Sins somewhat dated and formulaic because it does feel that way if you're reading it now for the first time. But as a long-time Nora fan who read Sacred Sins when it was first released back in 1990, I'd just like to remind everybody that this was the START of Nora's career!! These two characters, more than any others from earlier books illustrate the archetype characters that we know and love Nora for! Ben Paris is a classic hero and still possibly my favorite Nora hero, though it's a tough call after all this time. I don't think Sacred Sins should have been released again in hardcover - that seems like a stretch. But if you're just discovering romantic suspense, and just discovering Nora, to start with Sacred Sins and build from there is exactly what her career did. I am a grateful and appreciative fan, more than a decade later. I guess it's all in the perspective. At a recent Nora booksigning I chose to have Sacred Sins and The Villa signed because they represent to me the spectrum of her career and my following of it.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Oldie but a Goodie, August 26, 2001
The weather isn't the only thing heating up in Washington D.C. A young, blond woman is found strangled. The murder weapon is a white, silk priest's amice. Attached to the victim is a note, "Her Sins Are Forgiven." Police detective Ben Paris is part of the special investigations team assigned to the "priest" case, along with his long-time friend and partner, Ed Jackson. When psychiatrist Dr. Tess Court joins the investigation team, not everyone is pleased. Is Tess getting too close to the case? Is she getting too close to Ben? SACRED SINS is one of Nora Roberts' earlier suspense novels. I recently read her latest, THE VILLA, and find that her style of writing and character development has really grown over the years in comparison. Nevertheless, I enjoyed SACRED SINS. It's well-written, starts off with a bang to reel you in, and shocks you in the end. I found myself appreciating the relationship between the two detectives, Ben and Ed, more than the relationship between Ben and Tess. But maybe it's just me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Suspense and Romance, September 11, 2006
Being an avid Nora fan, and having read many of her books, I find this story to be a good combination of mystery with subtle, but well-written romance. This is the first of the Ben Paris/Ed Jackson duo novels and since I read them in the wrong sequence, I was already familiar with the two police detectives. This is Ben and Tess's story on the mystery serial killer that brought the blonde, blue-eyed, well-to-do psychiatrist and the tall dark and handsome policeman together. A killer posing as a priest (murdering his victims with an amice-strangulation) is running wild and all the victims are blonde, petite women, very similar to Tess Court - the psychiatrist brought in on the case, much to Ben's dislike, to give a profile of the killer. The story of the romantic entanglement is predictable, however, as with all Nora stories, it is well written and easily blended in with the details and the efforts of searching for and capturing the killer. I was totally surprised by the outcome - had no idea who the killer was.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first Nora Roberts book... and only the beginning!, July 15, 2006
As the temperature soars in the nation's capital, the headlines stun the public when a young woman is found strangled to death with a priest's scarf. When another woman is murdered the same way shortly after, the police know they have a serial killer on the loose, a killer that has been dubbed by the media as "the Priest".

Ben Paris is one of the detectives assigned to the case. Ruthless and arrogant, he will leave nothing unturned until they nail the killer. When the captain and the mayor decides to enlist the help of a top-notch psychiatrist, Ben, who's never had much faith in her profession after his brother's suicide, doesn't hide his disdain with the idea. But the moment the doctor walks into the precinct, Ben cannot deny the strong attraction he feels for her, especially when she turns out to be totally different from what he had expected.

If not for her grandfather's request, Dr. Tess Court wouldn't have agreed to assist the police with their investigation. And after meeting the arrogant detective, she couldn't wait to finish profiling the murderer and be done with the case. But the more she studies the case, the more she finds herself drawn deeper to it until it is too late and the killer turns his attention on her...

SACRED SINS is a romantic thriller featuring two characters that find love amidst the terror of their jobs. Ben is a man haunted by his brother's suicide, a man who continues to live with the devastation of losing a great man whom he looked up to. It is this grief that causes some tension between him and Tess because of Ben's disdain for psychiatrists. As for Tess, while she initially couldn't care less what Ben thought of her and her job, it is her nurturing nature that pushes her to his side, wanting to know the reasons for his dislike and ease his pain. And as they are drawn together, we see the undeniable chemistry between them. Their byplays provide some fun and, sometimes, seductive reading.

This is my first book by Nora Roberts and certainly won't be the last. Not only did the story held my attention, but I also enjoyed reading about Ben's partner, the health-freak Ed. I swear some of his comments about the junk that Ben eats and what they do to the human body had me laughing out loud.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ashley's review Sacred Sins, April 22, 2003
The novel Sacred Sins is an exhilarating adventure involving a woman and a man on a trail of a crazy killer. During the story they find themselves on the verge of dangerously falling in love. This novel will make you want to keep reading and reading until you reach the end. While reading the novel there will be many moments that will make you want to flip to the last few pages to figure out the ending of the novel.
The novel Sacred Sins begins at the end of a miserable two-week long heat wave in Washington D.C. The heat wave is the citys top news story. But the headlines quickly change when a young woman is found strangled to death with a priests white silk amice pulled firmly around her throat. Pinned to the priests amice is a note that simply reads her sins have forgiven her. This first murder is followed by a second and then a third and then a fourth. Soon the young womans death becomes the front page story in all local papers. Suddenly the headlines have nicknamed the murderer as The Priest. The slayings of these young women catches the attention of Dr. Tess Court, a superlative psychiatrist dedicated to treating the problems of the human mind. With the police making little progress in solving the crimes of The priest, Dr. Court is called in to create a detailed psychological profile of the murderer; she come up with a troubling portrait of a twisted soul who believes he is not committing murders, but rather ministering to his victims. Detective Ben Pairs does not care at all about the killers mind. He makes his opinion very clear to everyone that calling in a psychiatrist is useless act that will not help solve the crimes.
Even though Detective Paris objects to the meddling of a psychiatrist in the case. He can not face the fact that he cant dismiss his attraction to Dr. Court. He finds Dr. Court very attractive and irresistible. Detective Paris is a very tall, handsome, and dark skinned man with a reputation that is well-known with the ladies. However, Dr. Court does not react to Detective Pairs like the other women in his life. Now that Detective Pairs and Dr. Court are thrown into solving the murders together the flames of wild hot passion are soon ignited. But someone else has their eye on this beautiful tall blonde, someone who dreams of cleaning her soul and saving her from all of her sins. Dr. Court starts receiving telephone calls from the priest. She is sure that she can help the madman with counseling. Detective Pairs worries if he will be able to keep Dr. Court from becoming the priests next victim. Will Detective Paris be able to put a stop to the priests reign of terror? Will Dr. Court be able to stop him with counseling before time runs out? Will Detective Pairs and Dr. Court find love with each other?
This book is definitely a page turner for anyone who is into murder mysteries with a touch of love mixed in. I would recommend the novel Sacred Sins to any murder mystery lover. I would also recommend the novel to romance lovers. The novel depicts a very believable storyline. The novel contains profanity through out so I would not recommend the book to anyone you would be offended by this kind of language.
I would give the novel a grade of an A. The book kept my interest from the first page one to very last page. And as with every good murder mystery the novel has a great surprise ending.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sacred Sins is sinful, July 26, 2000
Roberts has created a story containing both verve and intrigue. Sacred Sins is the story of a psycho with unholy intentions. Tess is a strong character: regal, beautiful, intelligent. You could say she is typical of other "regal, beautiful, intelligent" female characters in other romance novels. However, Ben is an a-typical alpha-male. The combination is irresistable. Watching the byplay between these two such night vs. day characters was fun. Another reason this book is so good is because the plot is so gritty. I liked the gritty. The character development was complete, nothing was left out. It was fun watching Ben fall hard. Final word: an excellent choice on a cold night.

Ms. Edwards has written another thrilling ride that will take you from a cemetary to a military base and everywhere in between while entertaining you the whole time. Secondary Targets grabbed me from the first sentence and never let go. What a great story, filled with conspiracy theories, spies, covert military operations, secrets, deceptions, love, romance, redemption. Ms Edwards does such a good job of weaving the past relationships of all the characters into a thriller that kept me guessing until the last page. Great plot twists. And the ending gave me a chill.

What a cool premise for a book! It has a wonderful beginning, cluing the reader in that this isn't your normal mystery...it's much better, with a twist I never saw coming! Thank you, Sandy, for yet another wonderful plot! I'm glad I own this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars a plodder, December 16, 2010
For a "tale of intrigue and mystery," very little happens, at least in the first 25%, which is probably where I will leave it.

Also...
- the Army does not generally give awards to Lance Corporals
- there is no decimal point in 9mm
- the phrase is "in vain", not "in vane"
- Four Star General does not need all those caps
